Want to avoid paying late fees at the library?! PLAY SOME DDR!

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/06/library-lets-patrons-play-ddr-to-avoid-late-fees/

We've heard plenty of stories of libraries lending out video games, or using them to attract patrons, but this Nashua Telegraph story about expunging late fees with a quick play of Dance Dance Revolution is unique in our experience.

According to the story, the library's annual "Patron Appreciation Day" let attendees avoid their overdue fines by donating non-perishables to a local soup kitchen or playing a quick game of DDR. The exact pay-for-play system wasn't discussed in detail, but 16-year-old Arienne Stearns apparently needed a "C" grade on her dance to erase $14 of fines from her record.

Not that you had to have overdue books to play -- apparently, many girls "took second turns competing against the librarian, just for fun." This is a good deal, because from what we've heard, you haven't really experienced DDR until you've played it against a librarian ...

How crazy is that?! :lol

If only it were true near where I live... I'd go to the library just to play DDR every day. :p

I wonder how loud the library is...

DDR...at a library? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of a library? ;) That is a funny and cool story. But man that would be embarrassing to tell all your friends you just got smoked in DDR by a librarian!

Kinda wish it was ITG than DDR but it really doesnt matter since its in a library.

I wonder what they'll think when someone plays like Sakura or Max 300 on heavy on the machine.

:o wish my school did that they could learn from this like how not to be so damn strict ::).

Cool story :lol 8)

Yeah, it's free! :lol

But imagine the shame of not getting a C on a song (the minimum so you don't have to pay the late fee) AND having to pay the late fee. :lol

My local library has a ps2 with games at it. They have like a section where there is the ps2 and a table/booth where people play dungeons and Dragons and Magic at it and stuff. Like they are pretty cool at my library. lol
