Weekly Topic: Online Gaming

All the good, bad, and ugly. I am so sorry for using that line... I'll post up my thoughts when I'm not playing host. Oh, and Mai can start next weeks.

In some ways, I agree. I've had a lot of fun playing Halo 2 online. It's great to be able to play against people online when no one around you is available. But on the other hand, it gets really boring playing the same map over and over and not knowing the people you're playing against. So if you're on but no one on your buddy list is on, it's not as much fun.

The most fun I have is when my friends and I get together and there's four of us on one XBOX and we go online against other people. The four of us in one room can talk to each other and laugh at each other without having to do it with teamspeak over the mic.

One of my favorite things is playing online against my friends that I know from work, because then when I see them we can talk about the game we played.  :D

But you know, I've also had a lot of fun with games that aren't online. My friends and I play MK:DD and have a great time with it. Donkey Konga and the first Halo are also party favorites.

I guess I see the appeal of online, but I don't think it's the be-all-end-all that many people make it out to be.

I used to play alot of Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 online back in the day. I haven't really gotten into online gaming any recently, it just doesn't appeal to me alot, plus i have a 56k connection.

I would much rather play with friends at my home, or their home...I think its funner when your all in the same place and can gloat and kid around with each other. To me playing random ppl online is not terribly different from playing the cpu...its a faceless opponent that you don't really know in real life. I'd just rather play in an arcade with people one on one or with a group of friends...but then again I'm not into FPS and that seems to be the most played online games these days.

I'd prolly give Xbox live a try if they weren't so darn communist about the ppl that can use their service (in other words no 56k).

Yeah, that's something I totally agree with. My friends aren't the best competition but I play to have fun, not be the best.

Yeah, it is much more fun to play with friends than it is to play random people.

I almost always prefer playing online to playing singleplayer, just because it's not the same story over and over again. That and the fact that bots are worthless :p

I love online games with the pc.

I won't pay to play online.... am I cheap... no. There are just somethings I won't pay for.

My favorite is LAN play with people in the same room. That is the best.

†B†V† :hat

Yeah, LAN is the best. Too bad most of my friends' computers aren't powerful enough for the games that I'd want to play.

That and setting up a computer LAN takes up lots of space and time.

I completely agree. I rarely ever play online by myself, so I guess I meant it more like that, where you have your friends in a room with you and you play against other people you don't know.

Try playing on XboxConnect. Its a free alternative to playing on Xbox Live, but if you have a 56k connection, there might not be much point in playing. Lag sucks, hardcore.

The only game I've ever played online was Socom 2 and I got smoked, hardcore. But I can most definitely see the attraction for online gaming, basically, it gives any game infinite replay value. It's cool.

i always play online games with other friends in the same room with me generally. like in socom, our crappy small clan will all hook up at my place and we'll play online, but we don't play to show we're good, we play to be the best among ourselves rather than the gay clans who demand the same team and tk and shit like that.
personally i think clans, while they have some good qualities, ruin online gaming for me. they make people take things too seriously and the people always demand to play on the same team and cause annoyance and complain when they don't get their way.
that's why i quit playing socom, because it's full of whiny people like that. my beautiful RE doesn't have clans and i love that to pieces.
online gaming = good most of the time.
did pay for it for a short while with ffXI which is really good and worth it, i just couldn't play it enough, school is a bastich. good, but to pay to play means time has to be allocated which hurts.
LAN will always be superior. which is why i host about 3 or 4 every year to about 15 others. quality time among friends. plus new free stuff
