What are the best shooters for the PS2/PS1?

I am in the market for some really good shooter. Can anyone list some great shooter for these two systems? They can be US or JPN based games.

I know for the PS2 there is:

R-Type Final
Gradius III & IV
Gradius V

What else?

I think there was a Japanese sequel to the SNES game Darius Twin...

G-Darius...

I'm huge on the old SNES Darius Twin... Haven't played G-Darius, but if it's anything like Darius Twin, you won't be disappointed!
 
This one may not be the best shooter, but its a great arcade style "gun controller" game. Time crisis (ps1) and Time crisis2 and 3 (ps2). Though I personally like the first one. And by gun controller I mean you have one of those guns that you use instead of the controller. Great shoot-em up, and builds accuracy and reflexes. Thats how I got good. :D

I need to play those games. Try Metal Slug and Contra, both games are hard as hell.
