ATI RADEON X800 XT Video Card, 256MB GDDR3, 256-Bit, DVI/VIVO, PCI-Express, Model "102-A31904" -OEM

I am just curious.. what do you all think?

be honest, would this be a good card? Don't say... too expensive.. and other comments like that :lol

If your PC supports PCI-Express, that's probably one of THE best cards you can buy.

I prefer ATi over Nvidia anyday. They have better image quality, and I've never had a problem with my ATi's. Of course, never had a problem with the Nvidia I had for a short time, but still :D

I always use the Omega drivers http://www.omegadrivers.net as they give better image quality at higher resolutions with more frames per second than the standard ATi drivers do. Also supports AI, which is what the two companies used to use to cheat on certain benchmarks for higher FPS.

Actually, check out this one: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-438&depa=0.

It has slightly higher clock speeds, is a Platinum Edition, is made by the same company that made my card, and is $174 less expensive.

EDIT: AND, it supports a newer version of OpenGL. I definately recommend this over the other one that you linked to. Faster, better, and less expensive. BTW, Newegg always manages to get the product to the customer at least a day before it's supposed to be there (at least it has in every case I've seen).

isn't sapphire a 3rd party though?

Sapphire is a 3rd party, but the card is exactly the same (minus the color, and the fact that it's Platinum). Sapphire is the best manufacturer of ATi graphics cards besides ATi and is highly recommended by many (myself included, as my Sapphire 9800 Pro runs flawlessly and I love it). I think Sapphire's ATi's number 1 partner for making the cards, but don't quote me on that.

Are you against anything that's not made in ATi plants?

not necessarily against... I just have not bought anything non-ati

is there anything different about them? I normally go 1st party on everything that I can.... but if its the exact same, I'd think about leaning towards it.

I believe that it's just made in a different factory, is faster, supports better OpenGL, is the Platinum edition (including the previous two things listed), and is blue. Hey, goes well with Bluevoodu!

Other than that, exact same card.

I wish I had enough money to buy some of those, I'm stuck with a cheap card that doesn't render directx right in some games >:(

What do you have? And have you tried upgrading your drivers? You might want to try Omega Drivers http://www.omegadrivers.net as they can increase your performance.

For ~$200 you can get the same card I have, which runs almost everything nicely. By almost everything, I'm saying that it doesn't do too spectacularly on Doom 3, but everything else is nice. Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb I have, but I recommend the 256mb version. Check http://www.newegg.com for the best prices I've found anywhere on computer stuff.

I don't have the cash either.

I am sticking with what I have for a long time :)

I don't have an ATi, or 200 bucks to spend.. I have like 20 bucks, and 1000 in the bank which is for college

All I have is a 5200 FX.. what I have been doing though is taking online surveys.. I've made like 2 bucks and have another 10 coming so hopefully that adds up sooner or later :s

All is buy.com credit too, so whatever, I'm getting free money o.0

Haha, that works. A 5200 isn't too bad, just need to make sure the graphics drivers are up to date.

(and run in low resolutions with lower graphical settings that those you wish you could get)

Yeah, I have everything on low and all the drivers and stuff, I think it's just someof the new things games are starting to use that's causing the incompatablity between directx and the card.. I've pretty much narrowed it down to that or me having bad ram

Not completely sure between the two because my blue screen is pretty much always page fault in nonpaged area, but I'm getting video errors within that with directx drivers.. so not completely sure on that

Cant, i broke my floppy drive when the metal got stuck in one time o.0

I got it out but it just doesn't work now
