Depends. If it's like in the movies, it would be very useful to have. But if you could only hear what they are thinking, it would be useless. Detrimental even.

This reminds me of an episode of Kino's Journey (anime) where everyone in this town could read each others minds, and they ended up avoiding one another and living in solitude because it became too painful. You can never have 100% good thoughts about someone all the time.
