What Is Your Opinion On "Energy Drinks"?

You would.

Working with a bunch of gamers, it turns out Tea seems to be the energy drink of choice. Kind of odd. I personally just drink soda and vitamin water. Don't care for energy drinks and/or their taste to be honest.

Zing!

i like red bull (Straight, although ive had the cola one, not bad, but id rather drink coke or pepsi).

i also like the black and red FULL THROTTLE!!! i would drink those on a regular basis back in high school (once a week or so).

i drink a red bull maybe once or twice a month now and thats the extent of my energy drink drinking.

Reminds me of the time, when I was in High School. We were up until 4am, eating Chocolate covered Kona, Hawaii coffee beans. We were so wired while playing Goldeneye circa 1997 :D

I <3 Kona coffee!

Full Throttle and Rockstar aren't bad. I used to like Sobe Adrenaline Rush (before Pepsi bought out Sobe and increased the sugar content in everything then stopped making the good flavors of Sobe).

I don't mind a Mother or a V from time to time but i don't have it to often i like my teeth.

I know the feeling. My dentist scolded like he was my mother about not drinking pop, even diet.I'm glad I stopped drinking pop.For a while there I thought he was going to make go stand in the corner.lol,
But it shows he just cares is all. :D

I miss Sobe Adrenaline rush... BAD

†B†V† :hat

Me too. I occasionally substitute with Full Throttle, but its just not the same. And I try to avoid most energy drinks now. The caffeine and sugar does a number on you, but so does the acid and the taurine. All in all, the less you can drink, the better for your body.

But if they brought back Sobe's A rush, I'd still drink'em.

About a half an hour ago I finished a can of "Monster" Energy Drink. Now here I sit sweating profusely and trembling.Normally I don't buy into the hype of these drinks and their effects but I'm out of coffee so I gave my brother a few bucks for 2 cans of his.The first can I drank yesterday.

I did a little research and consulted about 12 pharmacists in my local area about these drinks.I figured it was safe to drink these in moderation, but most of them said these drinks are more dangerous than most people think, even in moderation, especially young teens who's systems might be naive to these chemicals such as the caffeine.

It could be some strange reaction by my system and perhaps not dangerous to others, but all I can say is avoid these drinks like the plague. If this is what the drinks can do to a person, even one who doesn't drink them like an alcoholic drinks liquor,Beware.

I know one thing,I'll never consume these drinks ever again.I found a pretty informative link I'm going to post.I'm not saying that any of you might have this happen to you,but please be careful.

Godspeed.
Kaz

In the first line, the article states:

Energy drinks like Red Bull, Rockstar and Amp have large doses of ephedrine

I have NEVER seen ephedrine as an ingredient in any drinks. Even pseudoephedrine is a controlled substance anymore.

It is a given that children and pregnant women should not drink things high in caffeine. As far as mixing alcohol with energy drinks, alcohol tends to sap B vitamins from the mitochondria in cells. Since energy drinks are high in B vitamins, they help replenish that one thing that alcohol tends to remove. However, if someone drinks ONLY energy drinks, of course they will become dehydrated.

Energy drinks aren't necessarily bad for you, but they aren't considered good for you either, take precautions when drinking these. Researchers recommend not consuming more than two of these drinks a day.

Anyone reading the article should do so in full and with a grain of salt...

The ephedrine thing puzzled me too.If it were true, you would have to go through a pharmacy to buy the drink right?

But you know diet sodas have aspartame. Upon ingestion, aspartame breaks down into natural residual components, including aspartic acid, phenylalanine, methanol, and further breakdown products including formaldehyde, formic acid, and a diketopiperazine.

I'd rather drink the energy drinks, even if the amount of aspartame in soda is not really enough to do damage.

My tae kwon do instructor drank a diet coke one time and got right sick from the aspartame they said.He never knew at the time that it can be bad for you.

I think this has been covered by everyone's comments so far; but naturally, the different types of energy drinks and their chemical compositions will react to others in different ways.

For me, it does jack. I've plowed down 8 coffee's and a can of Mother (which claims to be max legal caffeine in a larger can) over a work day with no food, and came out fine. But I'd started drinking coffee (and even a little liqueur) when I was 10. Small amounts, of course. But I bare in mind, an energy drink is essentially the Soft Drink equvilant of a coffee, or to be exact; Mother = 160mg Caffeine (I recall, probably wrong), Espresso = approx 90mg - So there you have it, coffee marketing in high doses for adolescents. ^_^
but take this into account; as mentioned in previous posts, energy drinks contain B vitamins (and they must contain them too). B vitamins assist as regulators for energy release. Take them away and you've got a hell of a lot of energy pumping through you at an possibly dangerous rate.

Once in high school, some friends would drink energy drinks every day at lunch. They came in one day after consuming 2/12 cans of V each, and were coming down until the end of the day.
Makes me wonder a bit though. How many factors can cause this. Because they've never come down badly before. And me, being able to handle some much, never have a problem at all. But from a biological point of view; each body is to it's own. Some may just urinate out most of it because their kidneys work so hard to get it out. Others probably just have it floating around for too long, possibly causing affects like Kaz felt. In other cases, perhaps the amount consumed should e regulated based upon recent dietary intake, and even the amount of solid food matter in your gut. (More may be bad due to absorption; it's called theory for a reason).

Anyway, I'm ranting. so I'll stop there. :p :lol
