where have the ff"s gone???

Uh... yeah, that made it... aheam, much clearer. We had FF Ten, then FF Ten-One as a multplayer, FF Ten-(and the number 2) as a sequel to FF Ten, and FF Eleven as a new single player game? Uh...

And by the way, how old do you think Lord of the Rings is?

what dope are you smoking, x-2 was only called as such b/c it was a sequel, why would you call FFXII X-3? and how is it confusing?
and feel glad you avoided mystic quest, wasn't so great, neither were ff2,3, at least from my memory

XI wasn't bad, if you had a person to play with, it went a lot smoother, unless you decided to fish randomly large monsters on your boat like me, but it was humorous no less
tactics and tactics advance i both played extensively multiple times, and taking anything from those is good for me.
and advent children is really all i want to see anytime soon

Im with this guy, I really loved playing FFXI, but I got so bored of it because making friends on their is cool, but I never had a friend in my own city that played on the same server as I did, so I eventually quit. If you dont have a friend when you try to play that game, its a lost cause. Makin friends on the game is easy and still cool, but you need someone you know to play with you, or all is lost.

Okay I can see that I wasnt really clear. So let me break it down for you again. There is no FF X-I (ten-one) if there is show it to me cuz I never heard of it. There is FF XI (eleven) which is the one that also came with a hard drive and is online. Now FF XII (twelve) is coming out soon. I can see people get confused about X-2 since its not a direct sequel in the FF series. But other than that its pretty clear.

Uh, FFX-2 are the only direct sequel in the FF series. But to the point, FF X, FF XI and FF XII. Which one is the multiplayer game? They sounds like FF 10, FF 11 and FF 12 to me instead of FF 10, FF Online and FF 11.

I consider it a spin-off but okay it is. I believe 99% of RPG's are single player and traditionally they are. I really doubt people will get confused just because one out eleven FF's are multi player. And if they want the multiplayer one Im pretty sure they know which one it is or know how to ask. Honestly I didnt even know there was a multiplayer FF until you mentioned it, but ill take your word for it since it doesnt affect the chronological order of the FF games. Which brings me to my next point.

Thats exactly what they are and what ive been saying all this time. FF X=ten, FF XI=eleven, FF XII=tewelve. FF XI (eleven) is online, but its' official title is not FF Online nor FF ten-one. It's FF XI (eleven). The one that is coming soon and the subject of this thread is FF XII (twelve).

And just to make sure you get what im saying ill draw this diagram of the FF timeline:

FF (the first one)
FF II (two)
FF III (three)
FF IV (four)
FF V (five)
FF VI (six)
FF VII (seven)
FF VIII (eight)
FF IX (nine)
FF X (ten)----------FF X2
FF XI (eleven)
FF XII (twelve)

You forget the fact FF 4-6 were released as FF 1-3 in the US, just to make the confusion complete. ;) But the point is we had FF X aka FF 10, then a sequel called FF X-2 (or FF 10-2). FF XI are online, but FF XII are back to single player? Am I the only one who finds this confusing?

I dont know if you're the only one, but I dont see why it is confusing. Simply because of the roman numerals in front of it. I can see people getting confused over fact that 4-6 were 1-3 here in the states (I left it out because they are the same 4-6 games despite that fact that they are labeled differently). It still doesnt affect the REAL chronological order of the series. It came back on track at FF VII. Like I said traditionally RPG's are single player, especially FF. So it shouldnt be a big surprise that its back to single player.

But what would you call the next multplayer Final Fantasy? With FF: Mystic Quest and FF Tactics, they should have named it FF Online or something. Kinda like Resident Evil: Online instead of Resident Evil 4: Online.

If I wanted it to be the next in the series then I would call it FF XII, or like you said call it something else if I felt that it shouldnt be part of the original series. But it doesnt make it any more confusing. All that FF XII is is the next part of the series. They can call it whatever they want. FF XII is FF XII no matter if its multiplayer, single player, or online, it will always be FF XII (twelve), which is the next in the series.

FFXI might be online, but it is still a game of the FF genre, so it is in along with the numbers, so I dont see whats insanely confusing about it all.

They had a single player on PS2, which didn't completely finish the story, so they made an FFX-2, FFXI was next up, and it was online, and there not making another MMORPG, so they go back to Single, because a single company owning alot of MMORPG's isnt abnormal, but a bunch of FF's online would be.

They will not make another mmorpg? But they did release an expansion, or so I heard. Which by the way was not called FFXI Expansion Name, but more like FF Expansion Name. (Expansion Name since I don't know the actual name.) But this discussion can go on for ever and ever, so let's just drop it like it's hot. 8)

So if they release an expansion, it means the online world expands. And if it expands, it's only natural to come to a point where you need a massive update to keep it up to date with modern technology, or in other words make a sequel. EverQuest, for instance. EverQuest are very popular, but it's getting outdated. The solution is EverQuest 2. And instead of making more add-ons for the Sims, we have the Sims 2. (and, of course, a few dozen expansion for that one until Sims 3.)

Exactly, which is why they are moving on to FF XII (twelve) and probably release a couple more expansion packs for FF XI (eleven). Especially since its a console game which will be outdated once PS3 hits. I doubt they will make an actual sequel to FF XI like they did with X-2.

But to avoid having this discussion go back and forth for ten years with us never agreeing on anything, how would it work to get FF X-3 instead on PS2 and move on to a new FF on PS3 called FF (stupid subtitle) instead? Kinda like FF Mystic Quest (please God no!), FF Tactics or even FF: Spirits Within?

If you wanted to make FF X-3 then it would have to follow the story of FF X-2. Since FF X-2 is a sequel only to FF X (ten) not to the original series. Anything else is up to SquareEnix. They decide whether its going to be part of the original series or something else like a FF Tactics. FF's are like sports titles, like when there's a new madden it will be called Madden 2005, and then the following year 2006 and so on. Each new incarnation will have its own roman numeral, UNLESS they decide thats its not going to follow the original series. Then they can call it FF Tactics or what have you.

you wouldn't make a 'sequel' per say to an online game like that and keep the old software. an expansion is using the old with new same style just more quests, items, weapons, etc. nothing major is generally changed
when it revamps on graphics, way things are controlled, etc then it will be more like a sequel.

just because it's a square enix, doesn't mean it's going to follow in the number line. they did have separate ff lines for gameboy, like ff:legend 1-3 and ff:adventure 1&2. putting it in that line of games is just a more sure way of it selling.
generally the main line follows a similar sense, but ff XI is more of your outlier by the way it was (being an mmorpg). it probably got the ffXI name more for selling purposes.
still, it was a fun game, just had to actually play with friends, or make friends and form you own party
nothing like that white mage whoring exp

Square Enix made Kingdom Hearts, or "FF meets Disney".

Anway, I loved FFX, FFX-2 is the only FF game I have beaten, so yes, please give me FFX-3. ;)
