Go get one now.

Mine's the original model, before they installed the new hinges. Launch model.. there's a clear difference in the later ones.

Small change. Most people will not identify it exists, even in the presence of the change. It's a modification of the hinges. Whereas the initial model had some complaints of "loose hinges", the later (still old model DS) model DSes were altered to have stronger hinges. You can tell the difference because there is a small "click" when you open it to its default position, whereas older models do not feature this click.

no money to do that right now.

I can't find the mario kart ds model anyway. I have a launch model that I got at launch.

NOW.... I heard there were a few other DS lite problems. Weak D pad, a touch screen that can move slightly, and it can lose it's sensativity.

Well, I was talking about original model DSes and modifications made to original model DSes, not the lite. I'm not too familiar with lite hardware, though I hear the hinges can crack?
 
Yeah thats what people are saying. No problems with mine yet. I really hope its just a fluke.
 
The Lite by far is much better for the brightness of the screens. I can see it a lot better when by the pool. I did thsi test with side by side comparisons, and actually never use my original one anymore.
 
I personally like my chunky-butt DS. It fits in my hands way better and is more comfortable than my smaller handhelds.

I just got a DS Lite and played that and my friends original DS. I guess I like how the original fits my hands, and if its a litle bigger I don't mind. But the screen brightnees of the Lite and better battery life are a lot beter to me.

I guess I'll take either or, so I'm happy with my Lite.
