A white PS3 would match my Wii and 360.
That swanky all-white PlayStation 3 released in Japan last fall seems to be heading to North America after all, according to a Federal Communications Commission filing drudged up by PS3 Fanboy. The white PS3 is otherwise identical to the current black 40GB model, with the same-sized hard drive, two USB ports and no PlayStation 2 backwards compatibility.
This makes a certain amount of sense, as another FCC filing originally provided early evidence of the existence of the 40GB PS3 model in the first place, back when the SKU was confirmed to be real by just about everyone but Sony. Ah, the memories.
Included in this FCC filing are a number of pictures of the unit from various angles, as well as a letter -- dated October 3, 2007 -- from Sony requesting that certain details about the unit be temporarily withheld from public disclosure. Obviously, the FCC provides no indication of a release date or price, but it's unlikely that the white unit will cost more the $399 the 40GB PS3 goes for now. A white coat of paint can't cost that much, can it?
