Why do people want to see Nintendo fail?

people are stupid to think that Nintendo is going out of business. as long as there are video game there will be Nintendo.

As long as they dont make very bad decisions there will be a Nintendo.

It's easy to say that, but look at how few original games sell well. All of the big hits this generation have been sequels or games from existing franchises. Original IPs like Pikmin, Ico, Katamari Damacy, Eternal Darkness, etc. all achieved critical success but bombed in sales. And to these companies, sales are all that matter. People are too afraid to try new things and that's why game developers re-use characters and franchises. And even then, it's not a guaranteed hit. I imagine if more people gave games like those a chance instead of passing them over for the newest Madden, there would be more original games coming from everyone, not just Nintendo.

I'm not going to pardon Nintendo for destroying my favorite game series just because they want more money. As well, its my belief that true sequels to games (no Celdas!) would sell a lot better than "unique twists" on old franchises. In addition to that I believe people would be more open to new ideas if they were used in new games.

I don't like how people think of Nintendo nowadays. Even Xplay's mocking it!

"We have reviews for the ever popular PS2, the sleek and powerful Xbox, the old yet still favorable PC, and the Gamecube... it's not doing so well."

Not cool Morgan. :-\

amen! lol

Where would the world be without Mario?   :(   :lol   well, we'd be minus one really horrible cartoon show from the early 90s!  But thats besides the point, there will always be a huge fanbase behind Nintendo. I mean, I've had every single system of theirs.  Its like the godfather of gaming platforms.  I do have a PS2 as well, but if nintendo comes out with a new platform again I will be in line with it one day.  (maybe when it goes down in price tho  :p)  the only thing that sucks is that the gamecube games probably won't be compatible with this new system.
grrr

welcome to the boards :) we hope you enjoy your stay and look forward to seeing you around :D

Except that numbers don't back up that statement. There were a lot of new ideas in the games I previously mentioned and yet the sales for those games didn't even come close to games like FFX, Halo 2, GTA San Andreas, Super Smash Bros. Melee, etc. If people are so open to new ideas if they're in new games, why would something like Katamari Damacy only be a cult hit?

Media.
I think the only commercials/posters/etc I've ever seen have mostly been for Xbox games (and lately Jade empire, but I forget what that one is for).  I've seen commercials for NFSU, GTA's, and Halo(1&2).  I had to go LOOKING for new types of games (hence my newbie-ness here) I really think that Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft*shudder*  should delve a little deeper in their pockets to advertise their games a little better.  I know I'd like to see more of whats out there.  Maybe I just don't watch enough TV. lol

I watch G4TechTV a lot. Recently they've been showing ads for Donkey Konga 2, which is cool. But mostly they've just been showing ads of games like GTA: San Andreas, Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition, and Jade Empire.

Dangit I'm late..Well, I'll chime in anyways cause I got a pretty good hunch why Nintendo is so hated..I think it really boils down to the word "mainstream". For example, go into ANY highschool these days and ask kid's what they're playing. I would bet a large amount of money that your average answer would range from Halo 2, GTA SA, Doom 3, and other "cool", violent games. I feel that Nintendo doesn't "reach" out to "todays" gaming trends and they try to stick with there tried and true franchises. And let's face it, the gaming industry is exploding and younger gamers who weren't brought up playing Zelda's and Mario's really see no attraction to those franchises. It's all about being "in" these days and Nintendo just isn't "in". And, well, the online thing, thats another major factor. The online aspect also fits into that "in" statement, cause if all your friends are playing Halo 2 online, and your at home playing Pikmin 2 alone, well....You see my point. Oh well, I'll always love Nintendo but I can only hold my tounge for so long.....  :-\

Grammar Edit.

I may be mistaken but I think you proved my point. FFX, Halo 2, GTA San Andreas, and Super Smash Bros. Melee were all sequels to games that stayed true to their roots, exactly what I'm saying Nintendo should do with their sequels. New ideas, like say playing a game with bongos, deserve to have new characters, storylines, and start new franchises. I would actually be interested in something like that. The fact that it somehow has Donkey Kong wrapped in it makes me feel like its a game that couldn't sell well on its own so a franchise was used to boost sales, and on top of that I'm pissed off at Nintendo for not giving me a game worthy of the DK license (even if it is a good game, its not a DK game).

The problem is not that the numbers don't back up what I'm saying, the problem is that Nintendo is either too scared to take a chance on a new franchise or too uncreative to come up with one. Besides, its not like radical graphics change or bongos for controllers are the only way to breathe new life into an old franchise. Nintendo just seems to get creative in all the wrong ways.

Do you seriously question why Katamari Damacy didn't sell well? If you answered "yes" to that then I must ask you, have you even seen it!? I've played and loved KD, but it took a hell of a lot of convincing for me to even try it. In fact, I probably would never have payed money to try it, because it looked fecking insane, and I had no idea what it was about.

Oh, and I have seen at least 2 Midnight Club DUb Edition commercials for every other videogame commercial combined. Seriously, that game is everywhere.

I prefer the Xbox because of its wide selection of Fighting games....i also like the PS2. The Gamecube is definetly a great system, but the variety of games offered on it cannot compete with the PS2 and Xbox. Simple as that.

Ahh see: keyword "I prefer". I'm not saying what you said is wrong or anything but it's a classic "mistake" to say one system has a better variety than the other. In the technical sense, yes, PS2 has the most "variety" of games but 85% of those games are crap. ;) But for your needs the game cube lacks, and for others it's the xbox that lacks, and so on. For example, if your not the least bit interested in racing or fps games, than the Xbox is probably gonna be your least desired console. And that goes exactly vice versa, cause the cube definitely lacks in fps's and racing games. And it's not always the amount of a certain genre a console has but what titles. And obviously the Cube just has fewer games in general but it has a broad selection of "quality" games, and games that are just good ol' fashioned fun.

I like the Xbox better because I am an arcade gamer, and i could care less about graphics. The Gamecube does have a library of quality games, but quality is all a matter of opinion. I would agree that many of the PS2's games are 'crap' but as a fighting game fan, you really cant beat some of the titles on it (CVS2, SVCC, KOF 2002/2003, SF3s, SFAC, CFE). So I don't really understand the meanin g of your reply.... most gamers (not myself) enjoy a great selection of games and genre's. I mostly stick to Fighters, and Shooters. Other than CVS2 and Ikagura the GC doesnt have any good fighters or shooters. Sure Zelda, and Mario are fun, but why would I play them when I can play a game that I enjoy more??

PS I am not anti GC .... I have a Silver Unit with 17 games ;)

"So I don't really understand the meanin g of your reply"

Hehe, yes you do. You know exactly what I meant. You said your mostly into fighting games so naturally you should like PS2 the best, and Xbox as well. But that is why you have to stress that the cube lacks for YOUR wants and needs, and not just in general.... Sorry if I don't make any sense to you :lol
