Why does everyone underestimate Nintendo?

Right, 'cause games not being rushed is so bad.
I never said that. You keep using the fact that a bunch of devs said they'd try harder to make good Wii games as an excuse for its lack of titles and it just isn't. Nothing to do with rushing games...

Because all you've commented on is the crap/minigameesqueness of the titles, and I've explained that. I never used it as an excuse for no games, how would that work?

Your basically saying that yeah, there's crap out now, but developers said they'll do better. That's basically an excuse for bad games. As it stands, the Wii is still PS3ish in terms of library, regardless of what a bunch of developers said they would do. The proof is in the pudding as they say and I don't see any...

The problem is that many sources are giving the PS3 a free pass for not having any good games right now while the Wii is getting all the criticism, even though they are both equally guilty of having crappy libraries. They both came out at the same time and both are hard to develop for; the PS3 because of the cell processor and the Wii because of the controls. And both systems sold the opposite of what everyone expected. Everyone expected the PS3 to sell like crazy because it was a PS3, and they expected the Wii not to sell very well. Instead, the opposite happened, and now developers are moving resources to shift their focus to Wii development. It's only been about eight months since launch, you have to realize. They can't do this overnight and they can't make AAA games overnight. So yeah it might take a while to see AAA third party games on the Wii.

in the end, i think we will have a great little library for our wiis, with super smash bros, mario galaxy, guitar hero III, metroid prime 3, a new zelda or two, and whatever else they can come up with over the years. i sure hope we're all here by then to discuss it all :(

Well that's what I meant by people giving the PS3 a free pass. We all know great games are going to be coming for the Wii and the PS3 later this year, but for some reason it's ok for PS3 fans to say that the great games are coming, but for Wii fans it's like "Why aren't they here now?" Maybe because even for Nintendo it takes more than 8 months to develop an awesome game?

Now come on guys, I don't know about you, but I totally live by this Miyamoto quote. "A delayed game eventually comes out but a bad game is always bad." I'd rather it took them a little longer and the game turned out awesome than to have them rush out an incomplete game.

exactly, give it time and the games will come, but if they rush them, it would be even more of a reason for us to complain about wii

I think its almost the opposite though.

I'll use fhq as an example here because he's been an avid critic of the PS3. He says that the PS3 has a horrible lineup of titles and that it isn't worth buying, yet the argument that the PS3 will be getting good games doesn't change his opinion. Then we have the Wii, which also has a small library of good titles now and he uses the defense that developers are making better Wii games.

He's just an example, but I'm finding out the opposite of what you said Mai, because I often here people saying the PS3 sucks and it has no good games, but everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that the Wii doesn't have a lot of good games either. That's what I have gathered from my experiences at least...

It all boils down to what type of games you like. People who like Wii will defend Wii and people who like PS3 will defend PS3. Simple as that. Doesn't matter the game lineup and all that crap. Fhq and I like the Wii, so we defend Nintendo and cut down Sony. If we liked Sony better, we'd do the same thing. Fans are what makes the money, not games.

I meant the press, because yeah on these boards it is as you describe. But I have a theory on that, too.

Before November 17, 2006, everyone was banking on the PS3 selling like crazy. It had the PlayStation name behind it and the PS2 was the number one console last gen. So naturally EVERYONE thought the PS3 would take off just as well and so they had already committed to it before it even came out.

The Wii, on the other hand, was a total underdog. It was a Nintendo system coming out after the Gamecube, and with a gimmicky controller at that. Everyone was doing the wait-and-see thing.

But because everything went the opposite--Wii sold like crazy and the PS3 fell flat--it made it hard on developers. Here they are, already making PS3 and 360 stuff because that's what they thought would be dominant. But now they see, oh crap, the Wii is actually outselling everything. So now they have to get together a game for the Wii.

The reason why it's slightly less bad for the Wii games to take so long coming out is because it's likely that the developers have just recently decided to make Wii games, both because of its surprise success and because Nintendo was really late in getting everyone development kits.

And the reason why the PS3 is criticized is because the developers had already expected the PS3 to do well and they got the development kits early, so people expected better games to come out earlier.

At least that's what I think.

Most developers had at least one Wii game for launch, so how's the late development kits work?

They were all ports, so they just had to modify them for Wii controls, which probably didn't take that much time.

I believe the only exceptions were Red Steel and Rayman Raving Rabbids, which were both by Ubisoft, and Ubisoft was the first company to get the development kit.

rayman raving rabbids was a port of a ps2 game

No, the Wii version came out first (release date was 11/19/06).

The PS2 version is the port except without Wii controls. It came out on December 11, 2006.
