why does the cube have a hard time with 3rd party developers?

Honestly... why is it? Why do the 3rd party companies not go to Nintendo to?

They just choose to sell lower numbers of games on other systems while they could be hitting the Gamecube front as well.

Post up your opinions..etc.

I think they are afraid to compete with Nintendo's first party games, which are always superior, IMO.

Plus, I think Nintendo still charges third-party fees or something.

Mainly because 3rd-party games don't sell well on the Cube, at least in comparison to the Xbox and PS2. For some games as well it might just be that they don't think their game will find an audience, for example, Driver 3. I would have loved to have seen this game come to the Cube but I have no doubt in my mind they are going to sell way more copies on both PS2 and Xbox, they probably didn't doubt it either, and figured they didn't want to go through the trouble.

The 'cube focuses on gameplay and nothing else. The entire system is focused on that aspect. So, imho, developers cannot hide behind FMV, or special effects, or harddrive compatibility. They have a lot of work cut out for them when making a game for the 'cube.

There are some really nice 3rd party games like Harvest Moon and FF: Crystal Chronicles, but overall, the best games are the first party Nintendo games.

personally i think its because:
1.nintendo's first party games blow away the competition
2.most games coming out nowadays are online in some aspect
3.more people own PS2/Xbox
4.im pretty sure Nintendo has higher third-party fees than Micro$oft and Sony

Yeah, but I'm ok with the lack of online capabilities because online games aren't that great to me. :-\

I believe the 3rd party game companies could create a fanbase for there games on the GC if they put them on it. If they don't even try, they've already failed. You don't make money without spending some to begin with.

I think it's a mixture of things. Nintendo is stereotyped for being the kiddie system. It's the older gamers w/ the money, why not target those with the money instead of having to win over the kid consumer as well as the parent buying them game for him/her. Also all the new games seem to be focused on killer graphics and fmv....... The cube's small discs can't hold as much as a normal dvd, so there's less room for all the cool jazz you see splattered all over magazines and television. And wether we like it or not online gameing is where it's at money wise..... socom got an extra $20 for a pack in headset not worth 15 cents, and a freggin 39.99 final fantasy game sold for 99.99 w/ a hard drive....... not to mention the fact that there's the potential for charging a monthly fee for use of your servers, or jeez, just the massive amounts of people that waste away in their parents basements skin bleached as if just home from a marylin manson concert playing online trying to get that fleeting #1 god like spot on whatever it is they're playing instead of seeing light of day.

Now I realize nintendo does try to target a larger audience than the prepubescant, there is an online adapter, and nintendo gets a lot out of that little disc, but for some reason I don't think the third party guys see it like that!

ps. I'm a nintendo fan-boy but I'm able to point out it's weak points!!!!

I'd rather not pay the monthly charge for online gameplaying, not to mention a broadband internet connection. If I don't have that for my computer, why would I get it for my Xbox/PS2/GCN?

As for the Cube's smaller discs with not as good graphics, I know the PS2 and Xbox have the ability to display better graphics with their hardware and disc format, but a lot of Cube games are awesome graphics wise, and fun to play as well (i.e., Metroid Prime, Windwaker). I don't know why 3rd party developers fail to see that.

more people do own a Ps2... but the Xbox... that is not necessarily true. Nintendo and Microsoft were neck and neck the last time I saw the stats.

The smaller disc should not have much to do with the quality of a game and should not hinder people from making games. That is stupidity in itself IF 3rd parties actually are thinking that.

The Gamecube can easily pull the same graphics that another game can.

I mean, the games of today still are not as large as what the gamecube disc can hold (at least without FMV stuff).

I just cannot figure out why 3rd party companies are creating games..... just cannot get it right. Either the games are no good, they do not want to dev for the cube, or the games are just mediocre.

Not all 3rd party games are terrible, look at some of the stuff Capcom has put out.

But you're right, most 3rd party games aren't that great.
