Order Wii Component Cables by Phone
Nintendo makes graphic whores happy.
by Micah Seff
November 14, 2006 - Eager Nintendo fans worried about the availability of component cables in stores at launch now have a new option available to them. It was previously believed that these cables would only be sold at Nintendo, Circuit City, GameStop, and Best Buy online stores, and only after launch; however, it has now been divulged that the cables can in fact be purchased before the launch of the Wii, but not online.

In fact, the only way to secure component cables at this point in time is to call 1-800-255-3700 and order them by phone. The cost of the cables themselves is $29.95 plus tax and shipping fees. Standard shipping is only an additional $5, but it may not be the most reliable way to ensure that you will get the cables at launch. Two levels of expedited shipping are available: 3-5 business days costs $7 and 2 days costs $13. Prior to writing this, we called and ordered the cables for ourselves, so we can verify that this is, in fact, quite true and quite convenient.

While this may not be a viable option for everyone -- many gamers out there may prefer to save money by picking up third-party cables in stores -- at least gamers who want to make sure that they can play Wii games in 480p at launch have a surefire alternative.

I am getting a pair. I am hoping to carry some Component cables shortly for all systems as well.

Even for people who just have a standard def tv, Component gets rid of color bleed and is similar to RGB. This is what you want if you have the hookup :)

Did anyone get component cables for the Wii?  If so... how much better does it look with them compared to the standard A/V?

I am figuring it's decent... but I'd like to have some opinions... even though mine will be here shortly :D

Component is RGB.

I was thinking of just getting S-Video but I might opt for these.

While we're on the subject of component cables, is 480p much of an improvement over 480i ?

You can actually notice the smoothness of the frames but the graphics won't necessarily look better.

As per my knowledge, Wii does not support S VIdeo.

Just composite and component.

Ah I see, so there's no reason for me to get a HDTV any time soon, since the next gen system I'd be getting would be a Wii, and then probably not for a couple of years. 480i should suit me fine for the next half decade or so.

Actually... it would support S-video if they made a cable for it. Hell the Snes, N64, and Gamecube all supported S-video... I would be VERY VERY suprised that the Wii could do A/V but not S/V

Actually to support s-video it would need an s-video encoder chip. All current gen consoles have s-video, but you never know ;-)

Well MadCatz is coming out with their own S-Video cable for the Wii. So I guess the Wii does support it.

I got the Component cable... I am still only able to use 480i... (TV wise)... BUT there is some improvement.
