Wii dominates Japanese game charts

No, it doesn't need Japan to succeed. As you can see, it's been doing fine without it. Besides, what do we, as 360 owners get, if the 360 wins this generation? Nothing.

You'd get stronger support next generation. And as many people agree, 360 has some pretty good games already, so imagine improvement.

You are right though, it is holding a strong second without Japan.

Yeah, but for right now, I'm looking to this generation. With the success the 360 has already had, it's locked tons of support for next generation already. For me, the 360 is making games geared towards the American consumer becaues it is an American product...and for me, that's just great. :)

But I think we can all agree the Wii is dominating Japan....and not only that, so is the DS as well.

Hmm...what exactly could Microsoft do besides FFXIIIing itself that would help?

You don't want it, but Microsoft wants to start actually making profit off their video game division, and an entire region is pretty appealing to that.

Not true. It affected the country as a whole. We are widely disliked.
Yeah, but it isn't because we nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Much of it probably comes down to the really big cultural difference between Japan and America.

Also, the reason many don't buy American products is more out of loyalty to Japan than hatred of America. This is all off topic though...

Of course they have the money, but it's a lot harder than you may think. The 360 doesn't really need Japan to succeed though. I live in America. I'm glad with what I have here in America. That's like me being mad that Starbucks doesn't sell too well in Japan. :lol
Well, not succeeding in Japan means losing almost a third of the world's gaming market. The 360 can still do well with just America, and part of Europe, but if they really want to win a generation, they're gonna have to gain a decent base outside of North America.

I do agree though, for me, the 360 is fine as is (maybe improve the failure rate a bit), but looking at the overall picture, Japan is pretty important.

A. That's not true...unless it is for you.

B. You're wildly off topic.

In some other weird news about domination in Japan, we found out how important Final Fantasy is to the Japanese market, helping the PSP outsell the DS Lite 5:1 and the Wii 10:1 the week Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings came out.

Don't you mean Crisis Core? Revenant Wings is the DS Final Fantasy. :)

Whoops, nice catch Mai.

@Cherry...I would probably put the reason they're not buying American products would be a mixture of discontent and loyalty, but that's besides the point.

Japan's important, and there's no doubt, but there's little or no affect other than not "winning" the console war.

In a way though, that affects the games that end up coming out on them, being that developers usually like to make games for the system with the highest sales (like the PS2 wouldn't have gotten all the games it did, had it not sold so well), and having a third of the world's gaming market, basically closed off to you isn't very good for sales. I'm sure the 360 will get games without it, but many games from Japanese companies, who's main sales come from the Japanese market, won't really want to develop for the 360.

As for the whole "Japanese hating American products thing..." (and this is the last thing I'm gonna say about it, I swear, cause we are way off topic :lol), I've always thought of it like many Americans buying American cars to help the economy. Its not that they necessarily don't like Japan or Europe. They just want to do something that helps the country.

I still think it's both...but we'll never know unless we get a group of Japanese people and ask them. :lol

what i really want is that all 3 companies don't end up like sega....
competition is really good.. in fact look at the 360 wich is thousand times better than the XBOX, the wii thosands of times better than the gamecube and the ps3.....welll still is better than the ps2, and they do all that to beat the competition (wich nintendo really did)

You heard it hear first people...Japan buy Nintendo games and systems because they hate America!!!

::)

And the Wii sells over 8 million because apparently we hate Nintendo that much as well.

Halo 3 has been selling pretty well in Japan.
