Wii Fit to be $90?

How much does Nintendo think you'd pay for a brand new balance board, accompanying software, and guaranteed (note: may not be guaranteed) weight loss regiment? $200? Nope! $100? Not even! $90? Actually... maybe, yeah. TheWiiCast (via Joystiq) posted a blurry pic of a GameStop release list showing Wii Fit priced at $89.99. Additionally, Joystiq has since confirmed with various GameStop stores that the bundle is listed at $90 in their systems.

Keep in mind this is still unconfirmed -- when contacted by Joystiq, Nintendo responded that "the only thing released is that [Wii Fit] will be 'under $100'". Well, $90 is under $100, and with Europe and Australia prices set at $130 and $140 (after conversions) respectively, we'd be surprised if it went any lower than that.

So how about it, America? Think $90 is a reasonable asking price for a "game" that'll ostensibly make you healthier?

Good idea. It's one peice of excercise equipment that probably won't be on a tabe at the weekend yard sale two months down the road due to a complete lack of use, being the Wii also plays games.

It seems like a lot, but I guess it's because of the board.

At any rate, it's still just tentative, so it may not even be priced that high when it comes out.

A $40 board sounds extremely fair. Not to mention, it does actually work and several reviewers have lost weight quickly.

o_oU not picking it up.......final decition from my part, if my parents want it that's their problem

It's just an elaborate scale. You can get a scale for $20 at any Wal*Mart. Lol, I remember when they unveiled this at E3. Everyone was expecting a good game, and we get this! :lol

I didn't realize scales found your center of gravity and could accurately detect your motion.

the only way i could buy one is if they make a great hardcore game with it or a wario ware.

The Wii balance board can't actually detect motion or center of gravity. It is a set of two scales, and onscreen movement is simply detected by detecting which of them is holding more weight at the time. It's an extremely simple device.

That's detecting motion...

that just explains how much you know about technology like this >_>

The Wii Balance Board is shaped like a household body scale, with a plain white top and light grey bottom. The board is wireless and contains multiple pressure sensors that are used to measure the user's center of pressure—the location of the intersection between an imaginary line drawn vertically through the center of mass and the surface of the Balance Board—and body mass index.

yeahh like my bathroom scale can know exactly how i'm moving and record it on the console, and my bathroom scale can be used to play games..... seriosuly.

I sort of agree with you. It's two bathroom scales (albeit, very sophisticated ones), attached to a game console. While that might not sound like a major change, it is pretty significant. The fact that it has two scales allows it to detect how much weight you're placing on one foot rather than the other. This isn't much, on its own, but throw in a video game console, and you have potential for games based off of the balance board. Something like SSX could be played by determining how much weight you're putting on either side of the board, and turning accordingly. It could provide a more immersive experience, for some games, and that is where its potential lies.

So yes, it is the same concept as a scale, but it can be used in very different ways.

we could finally play the arcade version of boarding games *-* (but i still want a warioware)

Well, yes, it's very innovative for a game console to use. But the device itself is nothing more than a bathroom scale, period.
