Wii Sensor Bar - Useless

Nova

Boom-shacka-lacka
There's a video on youtube showing that because the sensor bar merely emits infrared light to triangulate the Wiimotes position, you can use pretty much any light source, like said video that uses candles. :lol

I just read this interesting article on IGN for those of you interested in how the technology works. Apparently you can just light two candles at either end of your tv set and get the same effect for playing.

Thats really cool and really good to know. I guess when I get a Wii I'll just have to rig something up. But I'm one of those geeks who loves to play with this simple electrical stuff, so I'll have fun with it.

do the candles have to plug into the system? how would that work? in another video I saw a guy made a sensor bar out of 2 LED lights and legos, hookep it up to his computer and played half-life 2 with it.

sorry I read the ign article after I posted so I guess it only plugs in for power, this is awesome news. I'm gonna use the sensor bar, but I'll just try a couple flashlights first. What would happen if the flashlights were different sizes/brightnesses? I guess I'll do some experimenting with that.

Topic = Revived from the dead :lol

I don't think flashlights emit Infrared light, but you good give it a try.

sweet! flashlights worked better than the sensor bar. ya know what would be really cool though...if you were jewish and had a minora on top of the tv with the candles on opposite ends lit. :lol
