Wii vs. Playstation 3 vs. Xbox 360

I've tried PC gaming in the past and I've never really enjoyed it, especially when I've been forced to play with a keyboard and mouse. I'm surprised there's been nothing pro-Playstation so far.

"Oh yea? Wanna bet?!?!"

come on now :lol

I just like free money from people who don't pay attention to sales, trends, figures, and other pertinent information. That's all.

I think motion sensors can be pretty cool if they're done right. But its a rather delicate issue to please everyone.

It's good that there's competition out there- as long as none of these big names burns out like Sega. I'd say if any burned out it would almost definitely be Nintendo, they're primarily a videogame company whereas Microsoft and Sony have other markets to fall back on.

Actually, in a strange bit of trivia, I found out that Nintendo is the majority owner of the Seattle Mariners. Not that it would help much if things went downhill for Nintendo, but I thought it was interesting.

And HERE is the numbers I was looking for. I knew I had read some number about how many units were sold for each system. These numbers I believe are from November 6th through November 12th, so they are a little dated, but still pretty relavent. So, the numbers here mean how many units sold.

DS Lite: 148,147 units
PlayStation 3: 81,639 units
PSP: 19,123 units
PS2: 16,157 units
Xbox 360: 3,864 units
GBA SP: 3,864 units
GB Micro: 1,213 units
GameCube: 496 units
DS: 279 units
GBA: 19 units
Xbox: 3 units

I believe Sam said that the DS has its hands full with the PSP, but according to these numbers, I don't see a problem for the DS. Numbers don't mean everything, however. I mean, everyone could have bought a PSP already or something, but still, those are impressive figures.

--Edit--
Sorry, apparently those are for Japanese sales. Still, impressive numbers. But that does explain why XBox didn't sell.

I'd be interested to know the figures indicating who "won" the last generation. I'm pretty sure it was Sony, followed by Microsoft, followed by Nintendo. Is anyone in possesion of them?

Who "won" the last gen ?

1)PlayStation 2
units sold worldwide: 111.25 million

2)Xbox
units sold worldwide: 24 million

3)GameCube
units sold worldwide: 21.2 million

Who's "winning" this gen?

1)Xbox 360
units sold worldwide: 6 million as of September 30, 2006

2)Wii
units sold worldwide: 600,000+ as of November 28, 2006

3)Playstation 3
units sold in Japan: 156,400 approx. as of November 26, 2006

The second set of stats are a lot less conclusive.

Anyone who says DS hands its hands "full" with PSP is a good laugh.

DS in Japan sells more every week than every console on the market combined and often tripled.

DS in USA since the summer has finally caught on fire.

Europe? Couldn't tell you. I guess I'm just as guilty as Sony in forgetting about you guys.

I looked beyond my front yard today and had a thought. And that thought was, "I win." I, the consumer, will benefit the most out of this "King of the Hill" battle between Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft.

Bottom line is I expect to buy a 360 and Wii. If Sony redeems themselves and amazing games are released for the PS3, I may have to mortgage my house and buy one. :D

I didn't know there was that large of a distance between the PS2 and the other systems. I wonder if that brand loyalty carries over to this generation. That's a lot of people to be able to beat.

Definately a good point. A lot of fanatics seem to think even playing another system is betrayal somehow. As I sais earlier, I may be a Nintendo fanboy, but I'm excited in playing the other systems as well.

Ironically, I'm a former Sony fanboy (and a hardcore one :rockin) but the PS3 is the only console that I'm stubborn about not buying. I'll probably get a Wii during the months that killer games aren't very common for the 360. If I got one right now I'd have no time for anything else. Besides, I'm totally in love with my Xbox 360.

well i have owned 2 360's and i just got my ps3. and heres my experience. when i opened my first 360 it felt ok... i pluged in and played... a lil better. a year has past and gears has come out and has shown some true power from the console... but my experience with the ps3 was very different. from when i first opened the box even on the way home i felt excited like a lil kid again. and then played ressistance and thought 2 myself that this first gen title 4 the ps3 is as good and in some catogories better than a second gen title (gears) 4 the 360 ... but enough with the remanicing. personally i think that the ps3 will take off and catch up to the 360 in about 12 to 16 months.. simply becouse it is behind a year and has really only 1 good game out at this moment. but when time comes it will happen. i say 12 to 16 months

I'm pretty sure that the graphics processor in the PS3 is 550MHz and the one in the 360 is 500MHz. That's 50MHz of difference. Then surely, the graphics on the PS3 can't be that much better than on the 360, especially as the 360 is the console that's the closest to fulfilling its potential. Oh, and the Wii has a 243MHz graphics processor.

Well, a 50MHz difference doesn't seem like a whole lot to me. Maybe it is to people who have a lot more hardware know-how, but its seems graphics will be pretty equal between the 360 and PS3. Kinda funny looking at the Wii as less than half than the 360, but that is still twice as powerful as the Gamecube, and the graphics for that near the end were awesome (RE4 in particular).
