every time i turn on my computer a blue screen pops up telling me that a windows protection error has occured. i am posting this from my wii right now, and i cant get on my computer

whats wrong with it?

well, then you're gunna have to spend money so you can get it fixed by a professional. Plus why not back up everything while in safe mode then reformat it?

no burner

EDIT - i got it working in step by step mode, and im afraid to turn it off again

it seems to be running fine, but it wont later.

If you were running a custom computer like me, I'd say to take out a RAM stick one by one and see what happens. Since it happens on start-up, it's one of two things:

1. Faulty RAM / memory
2. Bad boot sector on your hard drive.

I'd wager on #1, as #2 really only happens from REALLY nasty viruses.

I always set up a C and a D Partition. I save all data to the D Partition and if this error occurs I can just wipe the C Partition and reload Windows and not lose any data. Just a thought for you in case you have to rebuild this system.

But, since it is back up and running, I would get an external USB Drive or HD and move my data and rebuild it. I always rebuild my PC's about every 6 months!

Just for the record.... did you record what error it gave?

and ... what OS and hardware are you using?

As neogeofl stated... having all your data on a D partition and your drive ony our c is good. It's almost better with 2 drives... though that can be overkill... in case the entire drive would go bad. You still don't lose your data (assuming c goes bad, not d). If D or C & D goes bad, you lose your data anyway.

This is where the Windows backup utility comes in :lol It's a good idea to back up your computer to an external reliable location.

So... has everything been running good with this

Bv :hat
