Xbox 360 pricing confirmed!

But with the way technology is, and including inflation, did people really expect systems to debut at $299 forever and ever until the end of time? It's just not possible. IMO, anyone who is surprised by the price is either stupid or incredibly naive. Or just cheap.  :D
Actually... $300 is a drop from the generation before..... so yes, I would expect the prices to stay pretty much near $300.

Look at what the PSX and Saturn charged. (PSX and PS2 were the same at launch... there was a big increase from psx to ps2)
Look at what the N64 charged. (Gamecube and N64 were the same at launch)

Prices have been heading down for awhile... and this generation... there is no reason for the jump, and least none that can be justified IMO.
Come on.. $10 extra per game is pure bull crap.

Actually that doesn't really make sense. I mean cars, movie tickets. houses, and TV's have all increased in price over the last 20 years. Why should games and consoles be any different?

Then explain why prices really haven't increased in the last 10 years for consoles?
AND why games used to be $70 when down to $50.  ... yes, there was a format change, but they didn't have to lower the prices... they could have kept them the same.

The prices of games DID NOT INCREASE from the normal CD to DVD format.  Why should they have to from DVD to HD DVD?

You are right... it is normal for things to go up in price( especially in many industries...) .... BUT not this steep of increases... and especially not this steep in the gaming industry.

I think the reason the price lowered was because the PS2 launched first and had it's games selling at $49.99. So it would have been really dumb for Nintendo not to decrase the price for there games, they HAD to lower the price not because of the format change, but because the other competitors had there games at $50. They had no other choice, but to decrease the price. So in short, yes they did have to decrease the price.

This however, is a different situation because now almost all publishers will be selling there games at $60. Companies are increasing the price because they know it will not stop the consumers from buying games. Plus the price increase is way overdue. I mean how can anyone think the the prices will stay the same forever? NOTHING stays the same price forever. There is always going to be a price increase. The gaming industry is just over due for one.

There is no format change in the 360. IF it has a HD-DVD drive it will not be for games, but it will be for movies.

overdue.... are you a consumer? :lol OR a seller?
HEck... even as a seller... its ridiculous to have games @ $60.... and you will start to see that not as many consumers will be willing to pay $60..... there are complaints left and right about $50 games.
yes, they willl sell.... BUT with the increased prices, I seriously think you will see a slight decrease in purchasing 1st day. Most people will opt to wait until the price comes down..... As the do now.... except in a larger margin.

Man, if the Xbox 360 is selling for $400 on the states, that means it will retail at about $480 in Canada. And if games retail there for $60 (which they do already here) then we'll pay about $70 a game. Plus, up here we pay 14% tax (7% government 7% sales), which means:

480 + 70 + 14% tax = $620 :o

For one console, and one game. Ridiculous.

Once again, I say its ok for new systems to cost more, but their lifespan should increase proportionatly. If I'm paying over $600 for a system and a game I want it to last a little more than 5 years.

I do not think you will see more people waiting for price drops. I mean when you think about it, most people who spend $50 on games are willing to spend that money because they want the game right now. I doubt those same impatient people will be willing to wait for a price drop when they can just pay an extra $10 and not have to wait. I agree with you that alot of people do wait for price drops, but those people usually are not in a hurry to play the game they waited for. The price increase is targeted more towards the impatient people who have to play a certain game when it comes out.
However it's not like the $60 price increase has been confirmed. No publishers that I know of have an official price for any next gen games. The $60 stores are taking is just what they THINK the price will be for the games.

I know... and just think.. the PSP is going to be more expensive of a system... and perhaps some games (IE Ea games are rumored... not confirmed $70)

I paid $500 for a Neo Geo AES and 2 games back in 1993. That was worth it because you were getting ARCADE PERFECT games AT HOME. That was a rarity. You also got 2 joysticks (nice ones) with the system. They made games for the system for 10 years. Granted the library wasn't big..... but they supported the system for 10 years.

@ fatty... I think the $60 games are confirmed. Mai had confirmed them that they were $60.

I just think the price increases *this much* is unacceptable... and i don't think they give you enough for the price. I guess thats my take on it.
And my stance is on the Xbox and Ps3 for now... if the rev is priced high.... my stance will be against that one as well.

Of course there are going to be impatient people who cant wait. But I honestly think that the price will make some of those impatient people turn into patient people. Me being one of them. I have no choice but to wait. I will usually be the first ones to buy a system, but not now.

thats what I Am saying... I am not trying to be disagreeable with you Fatty :D

I hear it all the time how $50 is too much "and if it increases more I'll just start waiting"

Heck... its hard enough for me to sell a game at my site for $45 that is $50 in stores...

Wal-Mart's online website has XBOX 360 games listed at $59.99, and GameStop's computer also has that price. There are a few games that are still $49.99. The regular version of Perfect Dark Zero (the Collector's Edition is going to be $59.99) and Kameo are both $49.99. I think they are going to make first party games cheaper.

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/9171/Perfect-Dark-Zero-Limited-Collectors-Edition-Announced/

I guess Mai was right. PDZ will only cost $50 at launch and $60 for the collectors edition. haha There is still small hope that the price increase will not happen. ;)

that will be good if the games are cheaper.... but I know for a fact that some many are going to be $60 :(

You know how much they are going to charge for their Wireless controllers?! OVER $50! And you still have to buy the cable that recharges the controlller (that connects to the system).

something has to stop on this pricing per component..etc.... we are seriously going to have a Video Game Industry Crash again like in Atari's days.

†B†V† :hat

Weren't the Wireless controllers were $49.99? You have to remember that you do not have to buy the cable that recharges it you can just use regular batteries or use some cheap rechargeable ones from wal mart.

I thought they weren't going to have batteries in them... they are going off Lithium Ion or something like that?

Also, I thought wireless controllers weren't any more than $30-35... correct me if I am wrong.
I know Nintendo's are that price... and I thought Xbox's and Playstations (from Logitech Brand Official... not 3rd party) were that price.

†B†V† :hat

nope logitech wireless controllers= $50 and na they aint using Lithium ion on there wireless controllers. they are using regular batteries. I'll go look for a link right now that confirms incase you dont believe me.

not that I don't believe you.. I'd like to see the link though.... as I thought the 360 controlllers were supposed to run off LI batteries.

man... I cannot believe those controllers are $50.... thats ridiculous. I just looked it up... and that is crazy.
I Thought they were all in the $35 range.

but regardless... the new controllers I believe will be $55-60.

†B†V† :hat

I dunno, I'm starting to think that they probably will be over $50 because I just found out the 360 wired controllers cost $40 so the wireless ones can be $20 more as they are right now which will amke them $60! and the link is right here... http://www.xbox.com/en-ca/xbox360/controllers.htm?level1=encahome&level2=behindxbox1&level3=controllers
its in the 16th paragraph incase you don't wanna read the entire article. It says that it will use 2 AA batteries or a kit can be bought
