The NPD released its sales figures, for December, in North America, as well as cumulative totals for all of 2007. To no one's great surprise, the big hardware winner of the year was the Nintendo DS, which 8.5 million units, with a ridiculously large 2.5 million of those coming in just December.
Second place was the Wii with a total of 6.29 million sold, 1.35 million coming in December.
Following Nintendo's two consoles was the 360, with 4.62 million, 1.26 million in December.
Sony's consoles lay at the bottom of the pile, with the PS2, PSP, and PS3 selling 3.97 million, 3.82 million, and 2.56 million, respectively.
Halo 3 was the software leader with 4.82 million copies sold.
Overall, the 2007 gaming market earned almost 18 billion dollars, a year-on-year sales increase of 43%. Wow, 2007 was one hell of a year for gaming.
