am I seriously the only Tales fan here?

its like alchemy in oblvion, some people never touch it, while others get deep into it, and look for ingredients frantically

Yeah, personally I never used the cooking menu in Tales cause I never really got it. I didn't know who was a good cook and all that stuff. It didn't take away from the fun I had with the game though. :)

Hines, Oblivion isn't all that great. I personally was was kind of disappointed by it because it was basically a single player MMO and after beating all of the guilds, I felt like I really didn't have an object.

Oblivion's amazing. It won multiple awards on several different shows and events and also won "most addicting". :D

But anyways, back to Tales. I'm going to get Tales of the Abyss this week. Mai, can you tell me anything that's different besides the story from Symphonia?

You unlock the Free Run ability pretty early on, though.

The battle system feels the same, although it seems to borrow from FFXII and give you a sort of gambit like thing. You can set your AI party members to heal or fight or use items and stuff, so that you don't have to micro-manage them in battle. Also, there are no group attack things like in Symphonia.

Honestly if you can find the strategy guide I recommend getting it. There's a lot of stuff in Tales and it makes it easier to learn. It will show you how to use the chambers and everything (very useful!).

Honestly looking back on it, there probably is a lot of complexity in the Tales games menus. But I love the games so I figured it out. It's the same for any game though. I don't remember any of the Final Fantasy menus being all that complicated either, but that may be because I was able to figure them out after a while.

I've played both tales of symphonia and abyss and even though abyss made some major gameplay improvements and ended up liking symphonia's story better

I thought Abyss had a better story, especially if you did all the sidequest stuff and found out about Natalia's full story, the Legretta/Van/Tear full story, and the Nephilim/Dist/Jade full story. There was a lot of stuff in Abyss that was hidden under the surface.

But I really liked Symphonia's story too, because I could identify with it in a way. Symphonia is still my favorite Tales game.

I almost bought Abyss today. I ended up paying off Uncharted instead. But, since the PS3 can play PS2 games no problem, I'll be picking it up soon. :)
