Begun this war has...Warner Bros. leaves HD-DVD format, favors Blu-Ray..

CD didn't win over cartridge? DVD didn't effect anything? HD-DVD is the one that's dying out. Hence why they canceled their conference for CES because Warner went with Blu-ray and admitted it. HD-DVD sees themselves as screwed.

I think he was refering to some of Sony's other unsuccessful formats. Betamax, miniCD, and UMD come to mind.

I don't Sony came up with CDs or DVDs, though.

when it came to games they did.

Blu-ray wasn't made by Sony was it?

No they didn't. There was the CD-i and the Sega CD that came before it, plus one other one that I don't remember right now.

Blu-Ray was made by Sony.

I think the CD-i, Sega CD, and Sega Saturn were all CD based systems that came out before the PS1.

Sony did help invent CDS, but they weren't the first to use them in a video game console. They were just the first to make a big splash with that format, and that was mostly because of Final Fantasy VII.

Fixed.

Sony and Phillips created the CD standard in 1980. Sony actually was developing a competing format for the CD but abandoned it it 1979.

That's still just a rumor, nay speculation on some hearsay. Although it's probably going to happen if they get out of their HD-DVD contract.

Well guess what...New Line Cinema too, has left HD-DVD and to re-confirm it..

New Line Cinema confirmed that they will move to Blu-ray exclusive support and no longer support HD DVD. In addition, Times Online reported that Paramount and 20 other media companies are preparing to remove their names from the HD-DVD alliance and move to Blu-ray.

It's over now. All that's left is to wait for Blu-ray to become mainstream.

Yeah I know. Which is why I said they haven't yet. They can if they want, and it seems like they do, but it hasn't happened yet. I've read all the articles already.

Paramount/DreamWorks responded to Warner's shift to Blu-ray exclusivity today, saying that the studios have no plans to abandon the HD DVD format.

Following Warner's shocking defection to Blu-ray last Friday, and the subsequent cancellation by the HD DVD Promotions Group of its planned CES media event Sunday night, speculation has run rampant regarding Paramount's next move, as well as the fate of any HD DVD title announcements they had originally planned for CES.

High-Def Digest contacted Paramount for comment, and we were told by a spokesperson that despite the events of the past few days, "we are still supporting HD DVD," and that neither Paramount nor DreamWorks had any further statements on the matter at this time.

As for any Paramount HD DVD title announcements originally planned for CES, at press time any such plans were "up in the air." Needless to say, we'll keep you posted.
