Fall '08 Dashboard Update

Creepin: I definitely hope so, the in-game blades perform horribly and I'm not really fond of what they look like. I would assume they've changed it, I can't imagine they'd have the in-game blades still have the old themes while the dashboard has a completely new interface. I just want to know what happens to the people who spent money on GamerPics and themes and wallpapers and such.

The new in-game blades seem to perform much better from what I've seen in short videos. And for all those who bought themes, yes you can use them as they are applied at the top half of the background. I'll try to find some pics if I can. Actually, I believe you can view the short video from Major Nelson on Xbox Live.

Will it be an option though? Or will it be required like some PS3 games are? Cause installations of games won't fit very well on a 20gb Hard Drive...
360 games are a lot smaller, though.

I like the new dashboard and the 8 person chat. There is also netflix and with that 8 person chat Everyone can watch movies together! As so i heared at the E3 2008 press confrence.

I also like the avatars.

What I wanna know is...can you do the eight person chat without Gold? I know you'd probably need Gold to watch movies and play games together, but just plain chat?

Another feature that is added to this update is:

Microsoft revealed that the Xbox 360 Autumn 2008 dashboard update will have new option to allow DVD games install onto the hard drive, which could cut down 30% of access time than directly loading data from DVD. For example Devil May Cry 4 only takes 10 minutes to install onto the hard drive.

Would you still need to insert the DVD, sort of as a check to see if you really own the game and didn't just take a friends copy?

The avatars look really strange though. I wish you could just have a picture or nothing at all.

i cant remember where i heard this but im pretty sure you can use your gamer pics cuz i dont think microsofts going to get rid of something that makes them more money, unless they plan on making more money off items for your avatar like things from games like a master chief helmet or something. i personally think that the avatars are better than the miis and yeah they the copied the wii but thats what all three of the systems did to each other

As the fall update and accompanying New Xbox Experience creep ever closer to our purring, anticipatory 360s, further details about the renovated dashboard continue to surface -- the latest of these is a sneak peek at how the Games Store will function under the NXE, courtesy of Xbox community site Gamerscore Blog.

To put it simply, the new Games Store will provide every game with its own comprehensive page, complete with tabs displaying screenshots, trailers, information about the title, and all available downloads pertaining to the game. If that made little to no sense, they've got a more detailed rundown on Gamerscore Blog -- but it finally seems like we won't have to search through an ocean of DLC to find those Bomberman: Act Zero gamerpics we've been coveting for oh-so-long.

I think I'm gonna really like this. :D Much better than the current system, imo.

'Bout time. Some of the game descriptions simply say "Download this!"

Apparently, this update is "too big" for people who do not own a hard drive or big enough memory card. It's 128MB for the install.
