Fall '08 Dashboard Update

I doubt that's what he means. I believe that means they will give you 20$ to help pay for the 20 GB, you have to pay the rest.

I thought that's what it meant initially as well, then I read the Joystiq article:

Microsoft is offering a storage solution for those who may lack the proper storage with either (a) a free 512MB memory unit or (b) a 20GB hard drive for $19.99.

This is cool, but since my 360's a Pro one I don't qualify. I wonder if I have any friends who bought an Arcade/basic model that wouldn't mind me stealing their code... I always wanted a memory unit :-X

I kid, I kid.

Ahh, so you can but it for 20 bucks? That's amazing XD.

Yep! In fact, memory's gotten to be a lot cheaper than it used to be. For example, I just recently bought a 16gb CompactFlash card for my Pocket PC (to use as an MP3 player) for $30. Definitely some cheap stuff.

Are Micro SD cards and PSP memory sticks going down too? I could have sword SD cards were... I saw them for very low points on PrizeRebel.

Micro SD cards? Sorta. There was a development in flash memory technology known as HC (High Capacity). There are now SDHC and Micro-SDHC cards available just about anywhere. The great thing is that they are so cheap, and they hold so much (normal SD cards go up to 4gb, but HC goes way higher... at least 16gb I believe)... but the downside is that the devices you want to use them on MUST support HC or they won't even read them. I have a 4gb SDHC card but my PocketPC won't read it because it was made before HC technology.

If you're wanting to use a Micro-SD card for your DS, the device you have (can't talk about it at these boards :p) doesn't support Micro-SDHC. However, they did just come out with a new version of this specific device that /does/ support SDHC. It's also considerably cheaper. Google your device and SDHC.

Although memory storage is getting cheaper, I doubt it has anything to do with the new price. Ms probably just needs to clear inventory as someone else mentioned earlier. MS still overcharges you for proprietery housing the hard drives come in.

Yeah, it's probably not the main cause... I was just bringing it up because Hovey sounded surprised that memory could be that cheap.
