Final Fantasy Tactics A2 for the DS!!!

Has anyone started the Clan Trials yet?

I was trying to do the Adaptability one. You have to kill a flan in four rounds, but lightning, fire, and snow spells aren't allowed. The flan has reflex, so you can't hit it with normal weapon attacks, either.

Do you just hit it anyway and break the law? Or do I need to wait until I get some other kind of magic (like summoning) or something?

XD. mai, i said the same thing but what you have to do is convince the flans to run away by talking to them and threatening them.

my bad, in higher lvl titles it asks you to defeat them but i guess you have to do so with magicks that don't defy the law (ergo aero, water and the sort)

How is everyone liking this game so far? I looked up the review on IGN and while it had a great score (9.0) the review was a paltry one page. Is this really good? I loved Lions on the PSP, but didn't so much enjoy Revenant Wings. I'm hoping this is good.

In truth I haven't started playing it yet, because I loved the first one so much and sank so many hours into it that I'm afraid that if I start this one while I am going to school, I will fail my class. As soon as the final is done though, I am breaking the seal. :D

i understand what you mean XD

a few days ago i had to go to the grocery store to buy some stuff at 3:00PM (because i ate and i hate going on the bike with a full stomach) it was 2:00PM so i said "ok let's play 1 hour of FFTA2" and then my mom comes to my room an asks me "where are the groceries i asked you to buy???" and i said "i'll get them at 3:00" and then she answered "........IT'S 5:00pm ALREADY" XD

Finally, a square game I dont have to buy! =D *cradles saved 40$*

I've completed about 30 missions so far. I'm working on getting my Vieras strong so that I can have a Viera death squad like I did in the first FFTA. :D

Ok, why do they give me a rule like "No harming moogles" when there are moogles on the other team?? WTH.

*is going to break the rule*

I liked it better in FFTA when the rules were random. :-\

you can convince them to go away... that's what i do

Actually as it turned out, the objective of the mission was to kill a certain person, so I didn't have to harm the moogles at all. Once I took out the mark, the mission ended. ^_^

So, I'm a little further along now. There's still a lot of things I don't like about the game compared to the first FFTA, but it's still a good game nonetheless.

really??? i kinda think otherwise, like the law system here gives some challenge but the problem is that it doesn't affect your enemy so you can't make strategies with it, and the fact that missions end faster than in the original (like the time limit) but overall i think FFT > FFTA2 > FFTA. but i do understand what you mean though.

There's a few things that bug me about FFTA2.

I don't like how you can only get weapons by making them in the Bazaar. I feel that this is very limiting in terms of how you build your team. For example, I can make anyone a white mage, but what's the point when I only have three weapons that teach White Mage abilities?

I don't like that the laws are predetermined for the quests, or that they don't affect your enemies. It takes away from some of the strategy. I liked in the first one that you could get law cards and change the law or bypass it.

Wow, bummer. Takes something that was a slight inconvenience in the past and makes it sound really annoying.

Got sick of playing the first one, so I popped this in. I have to say, MUCH easier to understand. I won't be going back to FFTA1.

So I've got about 252 missions done now, so I think it's time to discuss this game in earnest.

First, to get the bad out of the way - Things I do not like about FFTA2.

1) As mentioned earlier, I don't like the Bazaar system. You have to have the right ingredients to make everything. Then, once they are made, you still have to buy them. And some items are one-time purchase only; meaning if you buy it, to get another one you have to actually make another one in the Bazaar.

2) Also mentioned earlier, the law system. Not only are many of the laws downright stupid, they only apply to you and not to the enemy. Some of the more ridiculous laws: Don't Miss; Being Robbed; and Receiving Buffs and Debuffs. However, I wouldn't mind any of them if only they applied to the enemy as well. As it is, I break the law more than I follow it, since the penalty for doing so isn't as bad as it was in the first FFTA.

3) The job skill learning thing is broken a little. Often times I've "mastered" a job, only to find out that I mastered all of the abilities learned from weapons, but not abilities learned from armor. For example, I have a Geomancer on my team, and I thought she was done with the Geomancer job because when you go to the Change Jobs menu, Geomancer said it was mastered. So, I changed her to a Hunter and I was going to equip her with armor, and I saw that some of the armor had abilities for Geomancers, and that the character hadn't learned it even though it said the Geomancer was mastered. I'm pretty sure in FFTA it didn't say you'd mastered a job until you learned EVERYTHING, including action abilities, reaction abilities, and passive abilities. Could be wrong about that, but either way, this oversight in FFTA2 is annoying.

4) EXP being given at the end of the battle rather than during it.

That being said, onto the good.

1) Some of the missions are just doing errands, so it's easy AP.
2) Adelle's side mission story is pretty good.
3) Many of the new jobs are pretty cool, especially Parivir for Humes, Trickster for Bangaas, and the Gria specific jobs (Ravager/Raptor/Geomancer).
4) Grias are a cool new race.
5) The stories to get some of the secret characters are done pretty well (especially Frimelda's IMO).
6) The Auction House stuff is a nice little mini-game within the game.

Overall, I'd say that if you liked the first one, you'll probably still like this one even with all the different changes. If you didn't like the first one, you might like this one because of all the changes. And if you've never played the first one, you will probably like this one because you don't have to compare it to the first one. :lol But if you don't like strategy rpgs in general I don't think this one would change your mind.

HELP!

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I just can't seem to get my characters to level up their jobs suficiently. This is taking Forever!!! I don't have any idea how to get them to level up. Is it because I'm not learning many abilities from equipment? There hasn't been much equipment in the shops. Also I have yet to reqruit (sp?) anyone. I think I'm missing some major tricks here. Any help is appreciated.

well you have to remember to unblock weapons and armors in the bazzar so you can then buy them, and well the leveling up here is kinda random... so just stick to a limited number of characters as your core party

I haven't used the Bazaar much because I'm always afraid I'm going to use up some loot and then regret it later. I have orichalcum-anxiety bred from Kingdom Hearts. :p

I did finally get my first new clan member this morning though, so I guess it's ok.
