GameStop...a necessary evil?

Either way, I'm not going to preorder with them again, even if they have the best preorder bonus. :hh

That's how I feel about GS. Granted, it's for other reasons. So far, Amazon has not failed me yet and they usually (by usually, I mean 90% of the games I pre-order) come with $10-$20 instant credit towards anything on their site.

Brick and mortar stores have yet to match this, so I won't be going back anytime soon.

I have never, ever, understood the hate for GameStop.

I shop there and only there for my gaming needs. Wouldn't think about giving my money to any other store that isn't online.

Obviously, I buy from Steam and Amazon, eBay, etc, but as far as physical stores go, GameStop all the way.

And yes, $5 for a pre-order is nice, as well as them holding it for 48 hours (last I checked). I didn't know other stores did it differently…

Ya know, Wal-Mart occasionally has some good pre-order stuff on their site. I think I pre-ordered Halo: Reach from them and they gave me a free $20 give card to use how I wanted, as long as it was online. And it was delivered the same day it came out. Good stuff!

I've noticed some of that too, but it's not as consistent as Amazon and it's usually for games I'm not ready, or don't want, to pick up.

Also, Amazon tends to get pre-order goodies as well. While Wal-mart doesn't.

I will say this, Wal-mart online gave me one of the best deals I've ever scored. They had the Mad Catz SE Arcade stick bundled with the GH version of SFIV for $30. The game ended up shipping way later than the stick, so I never picked it up. They refunded me the money for the game and I ended up with a $15 arcade stick that normally sells for $70.

Is there a special shipping option to get games on their release dates, though? Every time I have preordered something from Amazon, whether it was a street-dated game or a street-dated strategy guide, I always got it after the street date. I would think it would make sense for them to ship it so that it actually arrives on the street date, rather than waiting until the street date to ship it.

I mean, I know that really I don't need everything day one, and some games I'm okay with that. But a lot of games, I like getting them on the day they come out. So GameStop is a better choice in that case. Or Walmart.

I always do, then again, I'm a Prime member. Not sure about people who aren't. I do a ton of shopping on Amazon since they usually have the best prices for what I'm looking for. For video games, I always get my shipping confirmation the day before and they overnight it.

I think it depends on where you are. Back in Los Angeles and here in Phoenix, I get release date delivery. Actually, here in Phoenix, a lot of stuff I order in the morning is already waiting for me when I get back home from work same day.
