GameStop sells played games as new, sources say, practice could be illegal.

Is what gamestop is doing wrong?

  • Absolutely! New games should be considered sealed and untouched!

Hey, you're a big dummy dumb dumb head!

But in reality, this argument keeps going in circles...and nobody's going to change my opinion on it, nor Zidart's...so it doesn't really matter. :lol

unless someone gives me a valid reason why gamestop should continue with this unnecessary process and continue with their unethical procedures then i won't change my mind on the subject.... as i stated in my post above i would be fine with a minimal amount of words and actions.... but why can't that even be accomplished by gamestop? i shall never know...

what i don't understand is why would someone be OK with this sort of action... if people don't care whether or not they are getting used games.... why object for a change that will still give you "games that play like new" literally....

*sigh*...why must you go on and on? If the game doesn't have a scratch, and the case is perfect...it is worthy of my full payment for the game. You don't understand why I'm thinking the way I'm thinking, and I can't understand why a piece of plastic means the game should be charged as used to you. But don't bother explaining, because it DOESN'T MATTER. :lol

I wasn't aiming that last paragraph at you but more at other individuals, because i already know you won't provide me with the information i am curious about...

the reason i care about that piece of plastic is because of moral principles, the importance of a company being honest and accountable to its customers.... i already said that a thousand times... is not just a piece of plastic is the business ethics.

and i will bother explaining because i want to make my point clear as a crystal..... and i do not want to be misunderstood :)

I always informed a customer if the game was a gutted copy. And I even asked if they would like it shrink-wrapped. I think it's part of the training to let people know when a game is a gut copy. If someone sells a gut but doesn't explain why it's already open, then that's just poor training.

Exactly. I've never seen them sell a gutted copy without explaining to the customer first that they had to take the game disc out, and if they were ok with that.

It probably does vary from store to store, depending on the store manager and how they train their staff. It might also be a more recent development. :)

Car sales are the same way. As soon as you drive it off the lot, it loses some of its value. Doesn't have a scratch, but its been used.

Would you buy a gallon of milk if the seal had been broken? You just don't know what has happened to the milk, all you know is that its been opened before. Maybe someone barfed in it, or maybe they just smelled it. I don't wanna take the risk.

I dunno man...people seal things for a reason. I want a new game to be my game and my game only, noone else touching it.

Cars =/= video games in the slightest....neither does milk that's opened. I've never even heard of anyone buying milk that's already been opened. You can try and compare this with anything as much as you want, but in the end, there is NO harm to the game...though you never know what could have happened to an open container of milk.

Honestly, I'm surprised this topic's gone on as long as it has.

Dude, I'm just saying, it would not be difficult to put even the littlest of scratches on it if it were played before you owned it. You or someone else may not notice it, but it would still be there. How is that no damage to the game? Even if it caused just a little baby skip in a cutscene or something? Why would you want to inspect a brand new game for scratches like that, when you shouldn't even be concerned since it should be perfect? You have no idea if them playing it might have caused damage to the game or not. I would never ever ever want to risk it.

I always check my games...and if there's a little scratch..I'll see it. Haven't had it happen. And even then...you still wouldn't know if it was played or not. It was just opened. It's like they say "hey, we played this copy."

but again...as it was mentioned before....it COULD happen, it hasn't happened to you but the risk is still there....plus AGAIN it has to do with principles... if the company is claiming that they are selling something new... then it should be untouched.

as MM already mentioned... damage is damage no matter how little it is. Also there should be no need to even inspect the game

instead of just dismissing our claims, comparisons, ideas and situations why don't you try to prove your point or defend it somehow, tell us why you really think this "issue" shouldn't be solved at all.... i mean after all even if gamestop stops selling used games as new ones.... would that really affect you at all? you still get the game for the same price as before... but a risk that you don't care about completely dissipates and it just makes people who care, happy.

Why don't we all just agree to disagree? :lol Y'all just keep arguing the same points back and forth, and nobody's going to convince anybody to think otherwise.

I can never agree to that this is why we come to message boards to have stupid arguements that will never end. :D

*sigh*...Zi...I've defended my point several times. Re-read the thread if you need. I grow tired of quoting myself.

No, but on the flip side, does it really affect you at all now?

Honestly, I wish I knew why they fight to keep them gutted. Okay, well why do they care if there is less gutted games? To basically please the customer to make sure they get a better chance to buy a new and sealed game, but for those who are fine with "mint" condition games. I say I respect their decision.
