getting a DS lite

My primary interest in the system is the fact that Castlevania old school side scrollers seem to only be found on the DS system anymore. Portrait of Ruin and Order of Ecclesia look like awesome games. I'm huge on Symphony of the Night (Playstation), Aria of Sorrow (GBA), and Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (NES). I can't seem to finish Harmony of Dissonance or Circle of the Moon because my girlfriend keeps stealing my GBA\SP to play them.

Anyhow, I was just reading up on the DSI and noticed that despite the extra cost, it is not GBA game compatable? Does this mean that Nintendo is completely dropping any support for the Gameboy or Gameboy Advance libraries?

Beyond that issue, does anyone have input on getting a DS lite? Can they be found new for less than $130? Are there any issues or capabilities the system has that I should know about?

I would personally just go with a DS Lite over the DSi. Initially I heard you'd be able to download older GB/GBA games onto the DSi, but I have not heard anything about that anymore. I love my DS Lite. It's so cool being able to have a GBA game and DS game in the same system at once. The quirks of the DSi {bigger screen, cameras, web browser} are just not valuable enough to me to give up the GBA slot and spend the extra money.

I have not seen the Lites for less than $130 new, as of yet. I'm guessing Nintendo doesn't want to give any more incentive to just buy a Lite than there already is. And if you hate fingerprints all over your system don't buy a black one!

I'm probably going to get a black/gray silicone cover for it... I love having silicone covers on my PS2 and PSone controllers!

Well the biggest reason for it being more costly. Bigger screen, the DS Store added, an added SD Card slot, the camera feature as well. As for GB/GBA support, there are rumors that this feature will be added as a new "Virtual Console" on the DS Store in the future, however no proof yet.

Price wise, it's a rare chance to find one below $130 at times. No issues have been known about the DS Lite as far as I know.
 
I would get the DSLite. Until 2010 there wont be really big difference between DS games and those DSi Enchanced games. Pokemon fans would usually keep their DS/DSLite anyway and gameboy aficionados would too. I personally didnt jump on the DSi train because there is no need to just yet and I need my DS cart slot, Golden SUN!!!!

I love my DS Lite and it doesnt have the stupid hinge crack problems anymore. Get the Cobalt Blue/Black one!

:\ I think if I want an SD card and camera functions I'll pick up my 8.0 megapixel 4x optical zoom Canon camera...seriously, why does a video game system need a camera?

Yeah, the DS lite seems like the way to go. I enjoy the Gameboy Advance and have a couple of original Gameboy games that I still play. I do have an SNES Gameboy player, but still, it'd be nice to have GBA support with a fully backlit screen for those dark games like Circle of the Moon.

Yea I really have no idea why they put a camera on it. It just seems so, well, dumb and pointless.

Sweet order! I need to get me one of them covers for my black one. I know you're big into side scrollers, but one game I feel is an absolute must have is Mario Kart DS. Well have fun with it!
 
Mario Kart DS could be good. I was huge on Mario Kart 64. My parents LOVE Mario Kart Double Dash. (I'd bet money that my mom could beat you all in Mario Kart DD.)

Mario Kart DS might be good. But I love multi-player as that goes. I think Bluevoodu is the only other person I know around here that has a DS.

You can play Mario Kart online if you have Wi-Fi :)
 
How exactly does that work... Does it connect to a wireless router?

Also, the remake of Chrono Trigger looks like a possibility. Final Fantasy IV would be a waste for me. I already have the remake on GBA (and prefer that graphical style) as well as the version dubbed Final Fantasy II on the SNES.

Chrono Trigger is a good one, as are both of the Dragon Quest games. I'm also inclined to recommend Phantom Hourglass if you like Zelda games. For strategy I liked the Advance Wars games.
 
My wife recently gave me Chrono Trigger as a gift. I really love the touch screen added feature in battle mode. It just seemed to add to the joy and fun of playing the game. It took me by surprise.
