Debating which will be better and whatnot.

I found an excellent quote on another forum, so here it is.
Do you really trust a company that is claiming to be making the first ever game that has guitar, vocals, and drums yet it is being released 11 months after the first Rock Band?

Activision will do with Guitar Hero what it does with all their series, drive them into the ground with sequels. Just look at Tony Hawk and Call of Duty. Both have had great games, but the number of sequels is becoming ridiculous (FYI a Tony Hawk sequel has been released at least once a year, Call of Duty is following that path with number 6 already known about).

Guitar Hero World Tour will have some great songs. They will be poorly charted (not necessarily to be more difficult, just poor) and there will be lack-luster features to go along with them. Activision will advertise out the wazoo and every gamer from junior high to 45 will know what Guitar Hero is. Being relatively uneducated consumers, they will buy them like they are going out of style.

Now lets look at HMX. They come out, some-what surprisingly announce a sequel for this year, but then say that they are fixing many of the problems/quirks with the first game, while adding new and expanded features. They come out and tell everyone they are addressing the concerns of their fan base. Then they announce that all the 200+ DLC songs you have spent money on will transfer right over to the next game seamlessly, something no other developer has ever done before in any genre (granted it isn't practical in many situations).

You would be hard pressed to find another game developer like Harmonix.

Between GH3 and RB, as far as note charts, UI, features and so on Rock Band felt and played like a superior game (ignoring the fact it is multiple instruments vs one). I have a feeling the results will be similar come this fall.

I'm gunna go with Rock Band. I just don't like Guitar Hero all that much and I feel that Rock Band has a more authentic feel than Guitar Hero. Plus, the fact that they allow the DLC transfer is pretty sweet.

I like being able to sing with Rock Band. It pisses me off that Aerosmith went exclusive with Guitar Hero because now that means I won't get to sing any of their songs except Train Keeps a Rolling which I don't even like.

Anyway, personally I think I will like Rock Band 2 more than GH:WT.

Did Aerosmith go with Activision? Well, that kinda proves what I thought about Activision doing it to take bands away from Harmonix.

I will probably stick with Rock Band. I really like it and I don' thave space for a second drum set (lol) so until I get a bigger house it's one or the other. ;)

On another note, the main reason I'm getting GHWT is because of difficulty. I don't like Rock Band because it's more of a party game. Granted, one could say the same thing about Guitar Hero, but at least there's a multitude of extremely difficult songs, and every song on Expert seems to be higher than the equivalent on Rock Band's expert. Yes, Rock Band has some difficult songs, but if you put them up against their equivalents in Guitar Hero, GH wayyy beats it in difficulty. Being a SM fan I love difficult rhythm games so I'm gonna stick with GH for now.

IMO.

IMO.

And again I say, IMO.

GH is, I agree way more difficult. I like being able to say I can play on Expert, but I know full well that Expert on Rock Band is easier than Expert on GH. When we had the RB demo up at work, one of the managers asked me what I play on and I said Expert, but that on GH I can only go up to Hard.

Yeah, but..you're only talking guitar-wise. We're talking about the whole shabam here. :lol

@Strubes, Rock Band does have an interesting challenge on singing and drums especially. However we will see how that turns out later on this year when GH WT appears.

Now, who will I side with? Definitely Rock Band, due to the fact they please the masses with more songs.

@Mai, I do agree it's doodoo that Aerosmith is only on Guitar Hero liscense. That's just being selfish imho for Aerosmith agreeing to do such a thing.

Guitar Hero will more than likely overcharge for their songs, while Rock Band will always be cheaper in comparison when it comes to DLC.

That is true, but I greatly prefer the guitar over all other forms of instrument. It's the only one that I can say I know how to play the real version of.

OMFG I can't play drums off of Easy, but I can sing in Hard and probably on Expert as well, haven't really tried it though. God knows I have had enough vocal lessons. :-[

Rock Band is easier, but I believe that is because it's more analogous to what playing the song on real guitar would actually be like. It is far more tactile, precise, and ultimately rewarding and fun to play. Playing a song in GH may be more of a challenge, but playing it in Rock Band feels more like you're actually playing the song, which is more satisfying to me. To understand the difference between the game, I would highly recommend reading this:

http://versusclucluland.blogspot.com/2008/07/i-asked-harmonix-about-note-tracking.html

Harmonix is staffed with people who love music, not just listening to it but playing it as well, and who try to bring that experience to video games. Neversoft seems to be staffed with people who love (hardcore/challenging/time-consuming) video games, and try to bring that ideology to music. I believe, for myself at any rate, the former approach is the correct one.

I got stuck on expert vocals like halfway through and just didn't bother trying again. It's hard for me though, I can only do 2-3 songs at a time.
