Graphics card cooling

the pci card you have next to your GPU? move it down a step, i assume thats an XFI card or the like? you might notice some difference there.

also, are there any fans blowing DIRECTLY across your HDD? when in a game, your HD can spin up to its maximum and on todays games, will do so almost constatly. without proper cooling they will shut down.

what i would do..

move the pci card down to the bottom, away from your GPU intake fan. maybe see if your case has room for a cooling fan on the front right near the HDD. also, does the door of the case have a fan on it or a place for a fan on it? if so, invest in one there, you will not be dissappointed.

The X-fi Titanium Soundblaster card is actually PCIe x1. It is using the only PCIe x1 slot available. However, it is not blocking any of the 8800GT's fan input area. I would have to take both cards out and take a picture to show it well, but the X-fi Ti looks like a perfect fit under the 8800GT, almost as if they were made to work together so that the heatsink/fan's input is not blocked.

I do have another X-fi Xtremegamer card that is a regular PCI card. I will probably switch to using that if I add an aftermarket cooler to the graphics card. In the current configuration though, it seems like it does not affect airflow at all.

The HDD is a Western Digital Velociraptor. It is actually a 2.5" drive housed in a 3.5" heatsink. So, the drive itself actually does stay pretty cool.

As long as you have an X4 or higher available slot, you should be able to use your X1. PCI-E X1 (assuming your motherboard will do this) should fit and work in PCI-E x4, x8, and x16 slots.

Well, that could cool my graphics card.. just toss that and use the soundcard in the x16 slot... :P

I only have one x16, one x1, and two PCI slots since it is an mATX setup.

ORRRR try these... you could affix one in your lowest slot:
1.) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835129025
2.) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835119065
3.) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835888112

Those should help reduce case temps... just make sure you have enough room for the air to flow out the backside of the case / desk.

Or...you could always buy a larger case.

this..

my midtower is nice, and still fits (sort of) in a desk space for a computer.

like i said, my setup is VERY similar to yours and im certain my temps in my case are almost cooler than my room is (old house, bad ventilation)

to be honest BV, his cooling is actually fine. any place he puts the PCI cooler at will interfere with his cooling schematics (for lack of a better term)

also, he cant put that GPU cooler in, it will have to go where his PCIx1 card is...

I would think at the bottom of the case would work, no?

As long as the front case fans are sucking in... back case are blowing out... one of the Turbine style fans SHOULD be able to move more air and reduce the temps. I've known a few to use those in tighter cases.

That too... BUT the above is (at most) a $20 solution :)

Oh I wasn't directing that at your idea, but I see how it looked like that! I just meant in general, a bigger case will keep every component cooler.

:lol not a big deal either way :)

and yes, that is true as well!

he has one fan blowing in, and 2 blowing out (PSU fan is still an exhaust fan)

he might exceed the intake limit of the one intake fan...that might be his problem, it might not be getting enough air in the case ITSELF.

If that's true... then he should be able to add a front bay intake. If there is another 5.25 bay open to the front side of the case, he could add one there... which should blow cool air down into the case and allow for the other fans to exhaust out.

Here is an example... I am not saying to purchase this one.. :lol BUT this is an example:

I believe it would stick back about 3-4 inches... but I cannot say if that is 3-4 inches beyond the 5.25 internal bay. However, this is designed to stick out a little further than the CD / DVD drives.

As I stated... it doesn't have to be this exact one... but from what I've read... these coolers work decently. They blow air down through your case... not straight to the back.

it would have to blow it down pretty hard...and stick back far enough to get past the back of the drive bays.

pink would look a bit fruity, but i guess if it works you could always paint it...
