No game can ever be truly perfect... a 10 thus represents that a game has reached the maximum potential that a game can hope to reach. It excels in all areas.

Highest rated game of all time? Yes sir!
odd... super mario galaxy was #1 for awhile I thought.

I can't believe GTA 4 is up at #1... I just can't believe it... There are so many better games than this game IMO.

Oh well... I guess there are a lot of others that don't agree with me.

thats what i told him, but he claims that his $1,000 tv was not the problem *l

I had the same problem over a friend's house at a LAN. My friend Steve brought GTA4 over (for the 360) and it was pitch black the first time it was night. He needs to set up the brightness and stuff for it to work better.

It's a really fun game, but honestly, most of the time you're doing fetch quests in a car or chasing someone down to kill them. When you're not doing that, you really feel as though you're in a living, breathing city. It's foul-mouthed of course, so it's definitely not for kids, but it's an awesome way to kill a few hours (and people). The amount of things you can do is breathtaking. I recommend it even if you don't typically like sandbox games.

I'm not convinced you've even played this game yet BV, and if you have it probably wasn't for more than a few minutes, and during those few minutes you were determined not to like whatever it was you were doing in the game. :lol

Now that the dust has settled and I can look at the game with some degree of hindsight, I can honestly say its a monumental achievement. Its one of few games that have come out on "next-gen" consoles (even though they're now the current gen) that has made me incapable of going back to last gen games. Playing other games, even on the 360, just don't feel like complete experiences anymore. I keep getting this nagging thought in the back of my mind that says "why are you wasting time on this game when you could be playing GTA IV?" And its true, playing other games is like watching a sporting event on TV instead of being in the crowd, or listening to a song on an iPod instead of seeing it performed live.

The initial "wow" factor of the game has worn off, but it was great while it lasted, and few games in these last few years have been able to have a wow factor. I think GTA IV is an incredible accomplishment, and a game that I can already tell is going to have amazing lasting power in an age of dispensable gaming experiences. It doesn't feel gimmicky, or neat in some ways but lacking in others. It's ambitious, it works, it's fun, and it is in every sense of the word a complete video game. It excels in nearly every aspect, raising the bar for every other developer out there.

It's fantastic.

Some people just don't like the whole 'style' of the game, myself included.

It's definitely an acquired taste, I'll give it that. Not everyone will enjoy what it has to offer, but what it does have it serves it up on a silver platter.

I guess I kind of look at GTA IV differently or something, because the game itself can be played, in any number of ways, according to your own personal style. The single player missions have their own style (like that of a mob, underground, organized crime, gangster flick) but you can play GTA IV for a very long time without every completing more than a couple missions. The amount of game modes you can enjoy in GTA IV is incredible, from the mini games like darts, bowling, and pool, to the opportunities for making money legally (more so), like driving a cab or doing street races. And then once you put your own imagination into the mix, all sorts of other options open up. With the amount of tools available to you in GTA IV, you can play the game the way you want. Hell, you can just hang out and cruise around New York/Liberty City like you would if you were actually there.

And then there's GTA IV's multiplayer which, with all the different game modes it has, lets you experience a whole new set of game types and play styles.

I dunno, maybe if you could elaborate on GTA IV's style a little bit more I'd have a better understanding of what you mean. Aside from the depiction of New York as reaslistically as possible as Liberty City, the game doesn't have any other major aesthetic style, so I don't know why that would deter you from playing it.
