Had Surgery Today

Man that sucked! First off I had to wait a good hour and a half just to get started. And of course my nerves were through the roof the entire time. My surgery was also only supposed to be about half hour and it ended up being over 2 hours. When I woke up from the surgery I immediately starting puking straight blood {not from my insides, but from the big hole in my mouth}. I was also extremely dizzy and just yucky feeling. After the surgery I had to wait another hour and half just to get my dang med's and stuff. So all in all I went in at 9:30am and just got home now at 6:30pm. But....I am thankful everything went good and I am glad this whole ordeal is finally over! The actual surgery was to take out my 3 remaining wisdom teeth and to cut out the rest of that cyst {thing was huge, about as big as a baseball}. I may not be on now for a few days, but don't feel too bad for me, I will be laying in bed enjoying my new games :D

Awe...some?

Though waiting three hours for broke bone surgery is worse. Though I didn't puke up blood or get to play games after.

Hehe, yea, the wait is like the worst part of it. I can't believe you had to wait 3 hours! Was your surgery at HCMC, too? {me and fhq only live like 20 minutes from each other, heh}

Ugh. That sounds like a not very fun day....but I am sure glad they were able to get everything finally taken care of!

Nah, mine was at...Lakeview? I think that's it.

Funny part is, my mom didn't want to wait for an ambulance, so she drove me, and before leaving, she wanted to get my seat belt on.

Don't want to hurt myself, do I? >_>

Having stitches in your mouth sucks.

I had to get surgery in my mouth on Tuesday...not nearly as bad as yours, though, from the sound of it. Mine was just for crown lengthening.

Wisdom teeth suck. How long before you can eat solid food and brush your teeth again?

About 6 weeks until I can eat solid food. My jaw bone was damaged from the cyst getting so large so basically I am on a "fractured jaw diet" according to my release form. They said my jaw could crack from something as minor as crispy bacon! So I will be living off malts and soup for 6 weeks, bleh. I have not tried brushing yet, but they gave me some special mouth wash that I can use for now at least. Sucks

Yeah, mine's not even close. I can still eat most solid food except for chips and anything hot or spicy. I just have to chew on one side. I can't brush my teeth for another few days, and then when I do I'm only supposed to use warm water and no toothpaste. I'm also using a special mouthwash. My stitches come out on the 26, though, so I won't have to do it too much longer.

I would get so bored of just malts and soup. I feel for you, man.

Oh well, at least it's over with, right? :)

Well hey, anything to do with stitches in the mouth sucks so I feel for you, too! I wonder why they didn't just give you the degradable ones like mine which just fall out on their own? Also, what exactly is "Crown lengthening"? I never heard of that.

Well, I went in for a root canal, and the reason I needed a root canal was, because at some point, when I had a cavity and got a filling, they didn't get rid of all of the decay before putting in the filling, so my tooth still decayed underneath the filling and ended up exposing a nerve (and man does it hurt like a mofo!). In order to save the tooth, they have to take out all of the decay and the root and put a crown over the tooth, since a simple filling is not going to do the job anymore. It was all well and good and I was in to get my crown, but when the dentist worked on my tooth during my second visit, he noticed that the decay was actually under my gumline. Now if they had put the crown on with decay under my gumline, it would have ended up still decaying my tooth and would defeat the purpose of having a crown.

Long story...still long ( :lol), crown lengthening is when they cut your gums so that they can get to the part of the tooth that is normally covered by them. It also gives the crown more tooth to hold on to, so they stay in longer. Hence "crown lengthening" rather than "gum shortening" or something. :lol

I have a fake crown in at the moment. They expect it to take about 3 or 4 weeks for my gums to heal, and the dentist is on vacation anyway, so I won't get the real crown until sometime in January.

Interesting...and painful sounding! So once you get in the real crown it will be all good? It's crazy just how much problems teeth can cause. People have actually died because of teeth problems, they are nothing to fool with.

Crowns are near indestructable from what I understand. But they tell you to treat it like a normal tooth and brush it and everything, so that way the teeth around it stay healthy too.

I agree though, tooth problems are definitely nothing to take lightly, that's for sure.

A hint that you might want to see a dentist is any sensitivity to cold or hot.

Oh man, that's brutal. When I got my wisdom teeth out it was a fairly easy process. 1 hour, 4 teeth. I had one that was coming in "impacted" but he didn't have any trouble removing it anyway. It was only one week before I could start eating normally again (although I had to rinse out my mouth really well without swishing which was odd) and even that seemed to feel like forever. You never notice how much you miss the taste of something until you can smell it but you can't eat it.

And yeah, teeth problems can be fatal. Mostly because there's so much bacteria in your mouth, so any kind of cut or lesion can get infected quite easily, and it's not a long way to spread from your mouth to your brain.

Because of a long documented problem with grinding my teeth in my sleep I'm going to need to get a whole ton of crowns done on my teeth. Also because of my grinding teeth, I'm starting to get jaw alignment problems, which can cause all sorts of other problems (headaches, sore neck and shoulders, vision problems, if you can believe it). Dental problems are very serious, and to all you kids out there, BRUSH YOUR TEETH and SEE A DENTIST ONCE A YEAR. Saves you a lot of money, pain, and trouble.

Um... Wow that sounds like it sucks...

I went to a dentist this year for the first time in like 5 years, and I still have no problems with my teeth... The only thing he wanted me to come back for is for my imapacted wisdom teeth, but they don't bother me at all so I decided to cancel that appointment.

Is your jaw problem what they call "TMJ"? I have this problem and it makes my jaw snap and click when I chew sometimes. It has gotten better over the years but it used to be pretty bad. My cyst actually formed due to the impacted wisdom tooth. I let it go for far too long because I thought it was a simple infection that antibiotics would knock out. I most likely would have died if I had not gone in when I did since the infection was getting into my bloodstream and was poisoning me . So yea, take our advice kids, keep those teeth clean and if you have pain don't ignore it like my dumb...butt...
