See..OK. The gameplay remains pretty much the same really. Granted you can now drive bicycles, better planes, and parachute. The actual system for combat, aiming, driving, and missions have largly remained the same since GTA3. The addition of the "RPG style stat upgrades" doesn't really do alot for the gameplay imo. Granted you do get better at your skills...the only difference seems to be that in previous GTA's you started out with maxed out skills, and in this one you have to actually build them up. The swimming is I suppose a new gameplay feature..but its not really one that enhances the game so much as it is a logical inclusion that had somehow been forgotten in previous GTA's.
The addition of food in place of health icons doesn't really add anything..again..just more common sense things changed to what they should have always been. There are tons of mini-games..sure..but they are all terribly dull and would not be able to be marketed at all on their own.
Lets see..what else is new in the gameplay department...2 player co-op..which results in a random roaming fragfest. There was no actual goals or missions to be played in 2 player mode..only wandering around and shooting things till one of you died. There was the schools...that I will admit gave the game some much needed diversity and replayability, and yes..even enriched the gameplay to an extent.
I just don't think the series can really do anything it hasn't already done. Other than give us better graphics (hopefully!), more eyecandy, and mini-games. There just doesn't seem to be a whole lot of depth in the games to me honestly. Maybe I'm just odd or whatever..but GTA has just been a terrible blight on the face of gaming to me, I honestly cannot fathom what anyone outside of teenagers or pre-teens could get out of playing it other than a laugh or a shock.
I also find it very hard to take any game, movie, TV show, or whatever seriously when they use the word nigga in a serious way. :?
