I just saw the movie "300"

The dialog wasn't the greatest, but it wasn't the films weakest point.

And about racism being strong then. Even if they were racist back then, there is no reason for the filmmakers to have portrayed the Persians so negatively.

I thought it was the weakest point since there was a lot of repetition, besides that, I can't think of any other flaws.

Personally I don't think the Persians were portrayed too negatively. I just think the Spartans were portrayed to positively. I guess you can say both sides were exaggerated.

Oh yeah, this movie was very racist. The Persians were portrayed as completely evil and cruel, as well as monstrous in appearance.

History is written by those who win the wars. Therefore, the bias that history shows would have been the bias of those who fought and won in the war.

Add a hollywood twist on top of that too..

Yeah, I know that. But that doesn't make it excusable.

I saw it. It was ok. I didn't really like the cartoony-look, but I guess some did (Strubes). Would I buy it on DVD, probably not. It felt like Lord of the Rings, Last Samurai, and Troy thrown together. The the mythical creatures in it were just plain dumb.

i just watched it and omg!!!!! yay it was awesome!!!!!!

but the random sex scene (two) werent neccessary....lol

but ugh it was awesome! they're laughing under arrow bombardment

Agreed. And did the bombs bother anyone either? Considering gunpowder was not known about by anyone in 480 BC...

Saw it again today. Greatest movie ever made. at bigmac, we must've been watchin a different movie...not that much looked cartoony to me. :lol

Racist? IT'S A MOVIE...lmao honestly now...who cares? Well, I'm pretty sure I know the answer to that.

Anyways, I got tickets for Wednesday too. Gonna be greattt. :D

This movie is from the creators of Sin City, I don't think realism is their main concern. I want to go see it soon though.

To whoever said it was racist: watch American History X

So, because it's a movie, it's ok if it's racist? Sorry Strubes, but casting all the "bad guys" in the movie as black actors and all the "good guys" in the movie as white guys, could have been avoided, very easily. The fact that it wasn't makes it seem deliberate, which is unethical. And saying that historically at that time period racism was acceptable is no excuse because nearly everything historical about that movie was altered for entertainment's sake (as mentioned before, gun powder).

yeah its ok, its a movie so not real. so if all the good guys were black and the bad ones were white is that ok? :-\

Its such a non issue!!

Havent seen it myself as its not out here yet. Best film of the year or to early to tell?

Sorry Stealth, but it's a movie. I don't believe every bad guy that was persian was black. Oh that's right, they weren't. Must be talkin bout a different movie.

So all in all, this movie malted my face off by how awesome it was. 8)

Not all of them were black. Im not up to date with the actual history, but in the movie they keep mentioning the 1000 nations of the Persian empire, maybe some of the nations in the movie contained black people.

How gory/violent is this movie? I know it's an R but is it really brutal or just comic book style violence?

its pretty gory.. the stuff it does show it looks like it really happend .. and not like they made it up.. really everything in this movie is top notch material

American History X is a great movie, and is a great movie about racism. However, that is different.

And every Persian Emissary, except for Xerxes, that I can recall were indeed black.

EDIT: Just to show that more than a few people think the movie had racist undertones...

http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=2277&sectionid=351020101

Iranians (formerly Persians) themselves are insulted.

And Greek critics were also unsatisfied by the portrayal of Persians in the movie.
