Killzone - demo impressions

I finally managed to get a hold of a Killzone demo.

From what I can tell, it's going to be a pretty good game.

The controls are a little weird to get used to at first, especially if you're used to playing FPS on the XBOX, where the controller is more suited for it. But the controls in Killzone soon become comfortable.

Basically, you move with the analog sticks as you would in any other FPS. R1 is the trigger for main fire, and R2 is secondary fire (grenades). The Circle button changes weapons if you have more than one. Triangle is for reloading. I'm not sure if there's anything for Square yet. X is used for many things, including melee attacks (you have to be close enough to your enemy for it to work). R3 (which is when you push down the right analog) is used for zooming when you're in a bunker and I think for sprinting when you're out walking (it may be L3, I don't remember exactly).

There's two different parts of the demo to play. One part is in a desert-type setting with bunkers and the point is to move from bunker to bunker and reclaim your main bunker. I've mostly been playing that one.

The other one is to move through the slums and find a certain area. I tried that one but it's a little dark and I couldn't see who was shooting me, so I died. :lol I'll have to try it out again later.

Anyway, it's definitely a game I'm interested in.

Well I haven't actually been paying any attention to hype around Killzone, so I haven't seen any screenshots to make any comparisons.

But I can say that the graphics are pretty good. There's a lot of attention to detail, especially with the guns.

I'm not sure what build of the game the demo is from, though, so the graphics in the final version have the potential to be even better.

I just really enjoy the feeling of it.

Ahh ok...See, this is the game that has been getting hyped as Sony's "Halo Killer"......Guess we'll just have to wait an see....

It's hard to tell from a demo, but I don't think I would call it a Halo killer yet.

But it's probably going to be one of the PS2's best FPS, anyway.

my friend was in the beta. i played it for a bit. the graphics are extremely well cut. the amount of damage it took to kill someone was a little too high for me. hope they fix that, but it's really good.
personally i don't think it'll have a chance to even come close to a title of halo killer. halo made the xbox worth buying for so many and killzone i don't think has that kind of potential

No, Killzone isn't a system seller like Halo was or even SOCOM II was.

the amount of damage it took to kill someone was a little too high for me

I also agree on that point. It seemed like I was getting headshots but as much bullets as it took for them to die, I had to reload a lot more than I would have liked.

personally that's for me what needed fixed most. also, why do all fps's have now that when you switch weapons, your guy has to reload it? no need for that prettyness

Reload? You mean take the safety off etc? I think that is realistic and not that big of a deal. After all, most people would put the safety on on a gun before they holstered it.

No, reload as in "it took so many bullets to kill just one guy that I needed to put in more bullets." That kind of reloading.
