Legend of Dragoon

:lol This what I'm talking about, I get different opinions on this game wherever I go. People either love it or hate it.

I'm still going to give it a try though, just need to find a decently priced copy.

Retro, here's the thing. I think it would be safe to say that the majority of people who hate this game never invest any time on it. They get frustrated because they simply cannot master the battle additions, or they cannot understand what is going on. The people who love the game tend to play it until they get the battle system down (which is like FFX' overdrives in theory, but execution is slightly different), and explore every nook and cranny for everything they can find.

Like I said before, I am on my second trip through. I have just begun the fourth disk, and am at about 35+ hours on it. This time, however, I have played it with a very reliable walkthrough.

@ Sartori, laugh if you will. I chuckle at a lot of things deemed "cult classics." And that's what makes them cult classics. Because they develop a following and a popularity that the people who hate them cannot understand.

Well folks, I just finished a side quest to free the trapped souls of the original dragoons that dies during the Dragon Campaign. In order to do that, I had to fight them one after another. The first one was in my opinion the toughest. His name was Syuviel, and he was the Wind Dragoon (Lavitz/Albert's equal). This guy beat the crap outta me, but I managed to beat him without having my party wiped out. Damia, the Water Dragoon was a little easier. Her Dragoon magic was way cool to watch, even though it did crazy damage. Dart's fire Dragoon magic evened it out. Belzac was third. He looks EXACTLY like Kongol. Well, except for the lack of a mohawk. Cake. He's tough on physical attacks, but crazy weak on magic. Cake walk on him. Every walkthough I ever read said that Kanzas was the hardest. He was the only opponent that I faced that I didn't have to revive a party member on.

Now I am back on the main quest in Zenebatos. :D

Alrighty, I have made it to the Death City Mayfil. Kinda crazy-like. I am like five or six fights from beating this game. And the battles are getting more and more intense. The crazy part is this city is where all the souls go before they enter heaven or hell. So there are three dragon fights that I kinda have to do on the spirits of three dragons that I defeated already. The Divine Dragon is a pain, because in the original fight, you could take out his Divine cannon (because it does almost instant death attacks). But this one isn't like that. You have to kill the dragon only.

Last night I got beat by the Divine Dragon, and hung it up. Maybe tonight I'll be able to beat him and get on with beating this game.

Well Dragoon fans, I am at the 45 hour mark. I found out that I could bypass the Divine Dragon. That fight has no bearing on the game anyway. And now I am at the absolute last stage of the game. Maybe half a dozen boss fights left. Then a huge storyline movie ending.

As soon asI beat this game though, I am going to switch back to FFX for a while and attempt to dominate that game before returning to my beloved Legend of Dragoon. Next time I will look for every stardust, and likely attempt every side quest that this game has...

Hm. I think I have lived through the definition of absolute frustration. At the last battle, you have to fight the boss three times in succession. He kind of mutates into different things. I get him down to less than a quarter health, and he starts picking off my party members. It could have helped if I had more health-based spells. But at that time I was down to nothing useful.

I think I will think up a new meathod of combat and hopefully I can beat this game.

Yea, I remember him being a pain too. I cannot remember, is the last battle right when you get out of Wingly City, or is there more after that? It's been so long, but I thought I remembered Wingly City being pretty far into the game.

No, it's waaaaaay farther down the line. There are a number of Wingly cities, and in only one is where a boss fight takes place. And that one is in the third disk. Towards the end, the last Signet Sphere is turned off, causing the Moon that Never Sets to crash into the Divine Tree. The last boss fight is in the moon. It kinda sucks in a way, but I have two saves, and I am thinking that I'll use my earlier save (even though it's ALL the way back in Zenebatos, and almost five hours from my later save) and level up some more and stock up on just healing spells because this guy's magic defense is high but his physical defense sucks.

I backtracked a few times in this game already, so it won't be a huge deal for me to do this in order to beat the last boss.

Man, I am so tempted on dropping spoilers in here... :D

Okay now I am starting to hate this game. Ever since I got my butt handed to me by the final boss, I haven't been able to turn on any console!! I was so close!! Within a few hit points of victory!! Two guys down, and NOTHING left in my spell inventory!!

Why is this horrible?? I bought four games in the last two weeks, and because of this defeat I have yet to play any of them. I need a way to get out of my funk. Maybe today after cleaning out my truck I will turn my PSX back on and get to smashing.

Well, today was the day. After 50 hours of battling through 4 disks, two-and-a-half hours on the last boss fight, having two of my party dead, and my main character at 156/5036 on the HP, I turned him into the Divine Dragoon for the last time and beat Legend of Dragoon!!

I seriously thought I was dead. I had nothing left in my inventory and was about to just turn off my PSX and call it a day. Then bang! Instantly I go to the end movie (which was way cool, I might add). Now I can put this game down and find another game to run through.

Now, would I say that this game is hard? Yes. The additions take some time to finnesse and master. The boss fights are balanced and difficult. The word translation is a bit goofy at times. And the last boss fight (which you have to fight him three successive times because he changes shape) is extremely difficult for most. I found him downright impossible the first two times I fought him, and it was on a prayer that I finally beat him. All in all it was a great game. Now for FFX. Or maybe Ys. Or Arc The Lad...

Ah. I never jumped into the whole inline gaming. I blame South Park and WoW. I don't want to lose my job, get morbidly obese, forget what "outside" looks like, or die because someone in Europe flew to the U.S and drove to my house to kill me because I took a sword or something.
