New Price Rumor on the Wii

While I cannot confirm this nor release source info... I was talking with a buddy who has a buddy that is pretty high up in a supply chain. SUPPOSIVELY there is a rumor going around that the Wii will launch for $179.99 for a Core system... and $229.99-$249.99 for a system with an extra controller and game.

I cannot confirm or deny validity... and this is just a rumor... so take it as is :)

I've heard the 180 number as well.

Though I would never put money on Nintendo releasing dual-SKUs. I have yet to hear this nor do I believe it for a moment.

hm... it wouldn't be any different than their core system versus the systems bundled with the Gameboy player...etc. Granted I cannot remember the last time (if at all) when they had Dual SKu's at launch.. but I BELIEVE the NES offered 2 different systems at launch. I distinctly remember (foggy... but I can remember it like yesterday) Children's Palace here in Indiana (now gone or bought out) had 2 different NES systems. 1 was in a black box with Super Mario bros...etc. The Other was in a clear package... sort of like a blister pack... and I believe that was a core system. I could be wrong... but I remember 2 distinct packages.

They had three systems, I believe. One was the regular NES, with just Super Mario Bros, one with the gun and Mario/Duck Hunt, and the third. Which was the "Nintendo Power Pack." That one came with The Gun, controller and power pad and one cart with Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt and World Class Track Meet on it.

At launch? The Track Meet NES came out later.

These were different times.

EA Games said that in an interview about the $179...first off, I wouldnt trust EA with a bag of gold coins....cuz then Leprechauns would devoyer their souls....needless to say, that wouldnt be a bad thing :)

I DO remember at least two (if not three) systems at the NES launch.  One system (the action set) had the console, 2 controllers, 1 light gun and Super Mario/Duck Hunt.

The larger system had the console, controllers, light gun and Robbie the Robot...

I did find the version with Track Meet on it, the Super Set.

There was also the power set that came out later on with the floor pad.

Get me dates. I am familiar with all of these, but they were most certainly not all released simultaneously.

The first TRUE NES Bundle was the Control Deck with Super Mario Bros back in August of 1985, which retailed at $199 and the 2nd was the ROB Set that was $249.99...the action set came around 1988 actually

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NES_Bundle_Packages <-- prices and release dates...the final toaster style NES was the "Challenge" Set (w/ Mario 3) and "Basic" Set in 1991 (not including the NES Top Loader of 1993, since it was unrelated to topic)

I thought Nintendo had a pack at launch that came with that ROB thing and a seperate one with Mario/Duck Hunt and the gun???
I don't remember Duck Hunt coming out at launch....  I believe that came later.

@ mega.,.. I've never seen the sports set AT ALL.. I've seen the rest though. The sports set... I wonder how many of those were released. See... I wish I had a picture... but I am 100% sure there was a system in a blister pack... I can remember it as clear as day.... but no one else seems to know what it was :-\

I've seen it once many years ago at a local Sears, was pretty cool cuz it came with the multitap.

The other set shown in this thread that has the same name, "Super Set" is a forgien version (the box art is different and there is a logo on the upper left hand corner claiming EUROPE VERSION)

In some countries, their bundles include a 3 in 1 cart of Mario/TETRIS/Duck Hunt...which looks so pretty or usually a Mario/Soccer/Other Game that was not Duck Hunt

Your probably right, it was sooooo long ago my uncle got "my family" the NES. I do distinctly remember a friend of mine had a NES some time before I did. So, yea, I doubt my set was a launch package.

Any thusly proving my point.

Nintendo never released DUAL-SKUs.
depends.... weren't the sku's different for different colored systems?

While I agree to your double sku comment ... I think Nintendo has warmed up to more system bundles..etc.  YES... they have always offered bundles. I believe the Gamecube and GBA were Nintendo's largest bundle effert. There are SOOO many bundles... it's almost hard to keep count. There were many bundles for pre-Gamecube systems... but I don't believe there were as many as the Gamecube and GBA era. SO... who's to say that they wouldn't incorporate their strategy they use in after launch sales for launch?

I doubt it.

Nintendo has always been a fan of bundles, and I'd love to see one, but a dual-sku would work against them for the Wii product.
