No more $500 PS3.

I would buy Halo 3 for $2... then turn around and sell it to some crazy fanboy :lol

Sony deserves criticism for their greedy tactics. This Blu-ray nonsense will haunt Sony for a long time just like the Betamax debacle before it. They tried to corner the video cassette market with Beta vs. VHS and lost, and I'm sure they will lose the Blu-ray vs. HD DVD fight too, because nobody wants to invest in a monopolistic video format. They should have just concentrated on making a great video game machine without trying to shove Blu-ray down our throats.

You are wrong there. Blu-Ray is outselling HD-DVD by a 3 to 1 margin. Experts are expecting HD-DVD to fold in 2008, or earlier now. I hope not because I like both, but the reason Blu-Ray is selling so well is actually because of the PS3. Hard to believe, but true. Maybe Sony should make a base model without Blu-Ray to rival the Wii and keep the Top-of-the-Line model with Blu-Ray for others. But, that will not work since the games are coming out on Blu-Ray Discs. So,.............

Good idea in theory. Personally I'd love a PS3 without Blu-Ray because I currently see it as a useless item. But that could be my ignorance speaking. Maybe they could find a processor that is less expensive to use and runs almost as fast as the Cell. I am sure that if load times are like the last generations most people wouldn't complain. If there are complainers, they could take advantage of a Cell powered PS3.

Look how successful Sony was with the CD format... If I'm not mistaken, they were the company that marketed that format first.

Too bad minidisk and UMD were lame ideas... :\

Now, if the PSP used SD cards and mini DVDs (ya know, like the small inner tray of most CD drives) instead of proprietary format, I think it would have done much better. For example, the PS2's ability to play both CDs and DVDs along with PSone and PS2 games lent much to its success.

I do question the need for a card reader and the new controllers for the PS3 (and for the 360 for that matter). I was pretty happy with the wired dualshock 2 (and the xbox s-controller) style.

Plus, a Blu-Ray Player alone costs $999.00 or more so the PS3 is a bargain for people getting into Blu-Ray. I have the Wii, 360 Elite, and the PS3. Also, the Elite 360 does not come with Wireless and I has to spend another $107.00 for the Wireless Adapter. :?

of course im not they have better graphics better games and a better future im a sony loyalists and will forever be one for one reason and one reason only they have a better product PERIOD!!!!!!!!

Please tell me your not a fanboy. Sometimes I just wish people would stop being consolesists and listen to the word of Dr. Shigeo Miyamto King Jr. All consoles should be treated equally.

Plus, no one is saying sony isn't a good value. Microsoft was just smart enough not to include an HD DVD player WITH the system. No matter what you say about value, $600>$400 and that will never change.

that seemed a bit close minded, but then agian im a ninty fan so ::), anyway I still try to keep an open mind, cos sony do make a good system, its just i prefer nintendo's consoles.
but this topic shouldn't just become a huge Sony Vs Nintendo Vs Microsft argument, no we should just try and see things from others view, as most 'sony loyalists' feel that graphics and machine power make a console beter, however i think that if its fun i will play, like with the wii its different and im always up for something new :D thats why i like the wii so much :)

The best console I own in my opinion is my Sega Master System. My most used is my PS2. So in my mind graphics and console power mean squat.

And Sony has a better future?? What are you basing this on? Because right now Sony is lagging way behind both the #60 and the Wii. But I am sure you have insider information that proves that the PS3 will overtake it's competitors in a relatively short time.

360 with hd/dvd player 598

This interests me because you added the DVD player in the price. Is this to show an apples-to-pples comparison? Because in the world of gaming, this feature is not really a big deal. I mean, I have a PS2 that plays DVDs. Do I use it? Once in a long while. I play games on it because it's a "videogame" console. So with that in mind the $400 figure sounds much better.

I am sorry for coming off as harsh. I just don't understand the mindset of a "fanboy." I like every console for specific reasons, and I can't recall hating any of them (Although I am hating the fact that I cannot seem to find a SNES). So like I have said before, respect comes when respect is given. Bash the 360 or Wii, and the people who love those consoles will think less of you.

Yeah, experts from Sony. :lol The total number of disc sales for both formats is way too low to use as a predictor. You have to look at hardware sales and the PS3 is tanking in Japan where the Wii is outselling it 7 to 1. It's way to early to chose a side in the format war but that's what the Sony is asking people to do by paying extra for the Blu-Ray player in PS3. They should have made it optional, like the HD-DVD add-on for the 360, instead of forcing it on consumers. Most folks aren't ready to choose a side and the 360 and Wii don't force us to choose.

I'm not a fanboy for or against Sony and I hope that all 3 consoles do well, but I'm afraid they blew it with their overpriced power play. Only time will tell.

Edit: Removed my stupid misinformation.

BTW, how did you get an Elite 3 days before the new May 4th release date and why doesn't it have wireless? Maybe you got a spray painted Core system instead? ::D

The Elite was released on April 29th! It is online for sale at Circuit City also. I am not sure where you got May 4th from! And it does not have a Wireless Network Adapter built-in, which sucks. And it is not experts from Sony who predicted it, it is unbiased experts. And I have both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD and I hope both make it.
