No more $500 PS3.

True. But it can silence the uneducated critics who say the PS3 is an utter failure simply because of price.

Well, to be fair, price can have a major effect on the amount of consoles sold (Sega Saturn anyone?), especially when combined with other problems, like in the Saturn, a lack of games. Also, notice that the 3DO, NeoGeo and the Saturn, the three highest in price (excluding current gen) all sold horribly. These systems were all plagued with other problems, and $700 was a lot more in the early 90's than it is now, but it shows that price often has a large effect on price.

EDIT: The CD-i also is $400 I noticed, but I've never heard of that so I couldn't really include that in my statement.

Anyone gonna explain what the CD-I is and how something that's $400 dollars can be that bad?

EDIT: Dart, I just looked at your list and you have the Odyssey in the wrong place. It came out in '72, before any other console.

EDIT...AGAIN: I would also like to point out that the 3DO, NeoGeo, and CD-I seem to all be niche consoles, selling very few systems so I really don't know if you can compare them with more mainstream consoles such as the PS3. Considering the PS3 has already outsold all of those consoles, accept the 3DO, which it will soon out sell, I really don't think we can talk about the fact that the PS3 isn't the most expensive console. It is the only successful console to be priced above $400 dollars, so yes, it basically is the most expensive.

Niche or mainstream, it doesn't matter when dollars are the topic. I understand that your average joe doesn't even know what a Neo Geo looks like. But it was a console that was released to the public. And so is the PS3.

As for the date, all I can say is "oops!!" :lol

I agree now that the PS3 isn't most expensive(personally, someone told me the N64 new was $700, I wasn't quite sure), but that doesn't make it cheap in any way.

The N64 was never $700 dollars btw. If your talking about now, it's about $30 to $50 dollars so I don't know where you got that. And your right that it is still expensive, but not the most, although every more expensive console has failed miserably. I don't think the PS3 will go down that path though.

Definitely not now. I can buy one with change I find on the way to the store, pretty much. I remember hearing that years ago, and it sorta stuck, and I mean, 64 bits was new back then, it could have been expensive, I guess.

Look at Dart's list. It was $200 dollars at launch, just like every Nintendo home console (other than the Wii)

I know. I never said I still thought it was $700. But $200, wow.

And New Old Stock Neo Geo Systems were selling for between $1,000 to $1,200 only a year or so ago (I know it is not the launch price, but amazing for a 17 year old system).

That's because there are like 3 NeoGeo's out there because no one bought them. If there's less, of something, its more valuable. The NeoGeo isn't so expensive because its great. Its because there aren't many left.

There are tons of Neo's left. And they had like 24 New-Old Stock when that price was going on. All I know if someone found 24 Saturns or Super NES New, no one would pay $1,200!

Still see no reason for it to be that, then, so it really doesn't relate to the PS3's price.

That's because idk...people actually bought them so people can sell their old ones on ebay so ppl don't have to pay $1200.
