Halo 3 Matchmaking Update 10-9-2007

Halo 3: Matchmaking Playlist Update 1
Posted by lukems at 10/9/2007 11:07 AM PDT
Halo 3's Matchmaking Playlists, just like Halo 2's, are dynamic and ever-changing entities. Even now in the perilous Bungie towers, we're looking at new hoppers, gametypes and modes to test for future iterations and changes of these playlists. Multiplayer Lead Tyson Green and test wunderkind David Gasca sent the following list of changes to us -- and these changes are live now:

Big Team Battle matches are now 16-player affairs.
In the Team Slayer playlist, the appearance of Shotty Snipers has been greatly reduced.
Now, when players veto Shotty Snipers, the game that results from the veto will not be Shotty Snipers.

In one-sided VIP matches, the attacking team will now see a waypoint for the VIP they are hunting.
In Lone Wolves, Slayer gametypes will appear more frequently.

Yeah... That alone is worth it...

I'm sorry, but getting shotty snipers, vetoing it the first time, getting it for the veto on an even crappier map, then after playing it get another shottysnipes on the same map... That's really overkill... I love that gametype, but come ON...

I have almost all the skulls now. I just need the Cowbell skull. But I don't think I will use the Hayabusa helmet. It's already overdone, IMO.

I also beat the game on Legendary on co-op. So much fun! ^_^

I'm up to rank 13 in Lone Wolves. I'm going to try and get my team ranks up, though. Team Slayer is rank 4, and all the other ranked ones are 1.

My k/d ratio still sucks. :lol

I'm getting this in a monthish, so I guess that I'll be campaign co-oping with my real life friends, and Living with you guys.

I've been playing Social matches and I notice that I tend to play better. I think it may be because it's not ranked and so there is less pressure to win.

I even got a snipe on a shotty snipers match! Practice pays off! :D

Not only that but nonranked matches tend to be much more laid back and relaxed than ranked matches. It all depends on your personality type. I, in general, tend to really be serious and play to win, so I like ranked matches better. However, my cousin just plays to have fun (as if I don't cause I play differently and enjoy winning? *sigh* I don't think I'll ever get through his thick skull) and to him rank don't matter so he plays social...

Which sorta brings up the question... Are y'all social peeps or ranked warriors?

(omgcorny...)

I play alot of Social but that's just because I have alot of friends come over to play. When I'm by myself I do ranked. I've only played about 20 games on ranked...lost maybe 3 or 4....my team's amazing. I ony play ranked when we're all on. :D

I'm really laid back though. Some guy actually gave me a compliment for the greatest comeback he ever heard. It went like this:

*Some guy mumbles*

Blue Team guy: You just need to SHUT UP!

Me: Oh yeah...you tell him! You will jump right through cyber space and kick the **** out of him won't you! Whoo!

Blue Team guy: Wow, I'm not even gonna fight back...that was the best comeback I've ever heard on here.

I thought it was funny.. :lol

I like the laidback-ness of social, but it is really satisfying to come in first place on ranked matches. I want to try and fill the medal chests for both. :D

Wow... Thats great... :lol

I had this kickass comeback yesterday in lone wolves. I won and got my killing frenzy achievement too, and I still can't get a tripple for the life of me...

So last night I was playing Social Slayer, and I got this.

Team Rockets on Narrows.

WTF. :lol It's hard enough not to betray anyone with Team Rockets on any map just because of splash damage, but combine that with a map with a lot of narrow hallways, and that's like totally asking for trouble!

Somehow, though, I managed to not only not betray anyone, my team won the match, and I got MVP!

I used to betray all the time in Halo 2, but I only do it now if there's an annoying little 7 year old brat on my team and most of the time he betrays me back and I boot him. :lol

I played today with the grunt confetti headshot skull turned on. It was great. :D

Best quote of the night:

Grunt: Enemies at 12 o'clock! Wait, does anyone have a watch?

What are some Halo 3 quotes that you liked or thought were funny?

I played some social today. Got up to Leuitenant rank! Yay! I didn't do as good today as I did yesterday, though. Too many shotty sniper matches and I haven't had enough practice yet. But I have gone from getting zero snipes to getting usually one a shotty sniper match, so that's something.

I think I may have to turn down my look sensitivity. Well actually, what does everyone have theirs set to? In Halo 2 I was up to 8, but I found that for 3 that was too sensitive, so I turned it down to 6, I think.

Another Q: If you do team scoring for the metagame, can you still get the achievements for it, or does the metagame scoring have to be free for all?
