Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Topic

i said it a thousan times XD, the level design is very common for platformers like kirby and maybe mario. so it's one of those games that you enjoy but the design is not so deep... still SSE is AMAZING for nintendo fanboys (i mean come on ever seen samus battling alongside pikachu?)

Yeah, the real point of Subspace was so all the characters would actually be together.

An 8 isn't a bad score by any means. I just don't think this game was perfect. I love it, and I'll play it for years to come, but there were just a few things wrong with it IMO.

- Final smash diversity. I love final smashes, but it didn't really set clones apart. I would have loved for Fox, Falco, and Wolf to have different smashes. Same with Lucas and Ness. And Link and Toon Link. I understand the characters listed weren't really clones, but you get the point.

- Subspace Emissary was sub-par. It was fun at first taking out enemies and such, but when 5 hours later, you're fighting the same enemies, you just want out and into the next level. Some parts were just frustrating, because if your character was too fast or too slow on the side-scrolling levels, you'd die. There was no strategy in that, as most the time it was on accident.

- Online. I won't hold a grudge for the server problems since the game's still new, but no chat, either voice or text, before or after matches is annoying. Separate friend codes solely for SSBB is also annoying. Nothing wrong with it, just an inconvenience.

- Load times. Several times I've wondered whether my Wii froze or not when going through loading times.

Now the things I liked about SSBB:

- Roster. Brawl touts an incredible roster of characters, ranging from Mario to Sonic, from Snake to Samus and everything in-between. I definitely have no complaints (aside from some better alternate costumes for some characters).

- Events. The events this time around are very fun, at least to me. The final one was really tough, even on Easy pitting you against Sonic, Snake, and an over-sized Mario.

- Soundtracks. With over 150 (I think) tracks, Brawl boasts a giant soundtrack sure to please anybody who plays it.

- Graphics. The graphics for the characters and stages are incredible for a Wii game.

Ok, all the questions that were in the podcast that I would like to go over in more detail.

Which in your opinion is better Melee or Brawl?
-I like Brawl a little more but it's because of the SSE...SSBM wasn't really fun to play alone.

Any disappointment for you?
-Lack of voice chat, for sure.

Which characters were the biggest surprises for you?
-Snake and Sonic

Are your favorite characters to play as different than the ones you're the best at?
-Yeah, I like to play as Link, Snake, Lucario, Samus, and Kirby. But if I want to win, I'll pick Toon Link.

Which characters do you feel were unnecessary to the character roster?
Lucas and Ness. I don't like how they play, and I don't have the nostalgia attached to them that most of their fans do. Now if Nintendo would actually put Earthbound on the VC, maybe I'd change my mind.

Who has been improved, overpowered, and weakened in your opinion of the Veterans of Smash Bros.?
To me they all feel a little different, but personally Mario feels the most different. And I think Kirby is improved.

Subspace Emissary is quite lengthy, but do you guys feel that many of the missions are repetitive or not really well designed?
I hated some of the level design. The levels themselves are a better enemy than most of the actual enemies. :lol But at the same time, I do like using a bunch of my favorite Nintendo characters in the same story. And if you're playing alone, it is somewhat less repetitive than playing Classic over and over. I enjoy the cut scenes.

And to agree with Strubes, I love the soundtrack. ^_^

I'm pretty sure that's because it's a dual layer disc, so that was mostly unavoidable.

Over 300.

They should have recognized this before they started working on it and made the Wii strong enough to handle it. This means future double-layer discs are going to have insane load times as well.

Over 300.

Wow, that's incredible. Every once in a while I find one in a Brawl too.

Raising the price. I'd rather add a few seconds to my load time than spend an extra $50 on a console so it can read data insanely fast.

I doubt it would have been an extra $50 but to each their own.

For the most part, launch consoles have a price at a round $50 or $100 amount. Since Nintendo wanted to make a good chunk of profit on hardware, they would raise the price, which would probably be $50.

Go ahead and share how you would have changed it, then.

I think you are afraid to admit that you are disappointed with it, because you were looking forward to the game so much. Honestly, fhq, it sucked.

EDIT - People, the lag has nothing to do with the Wii itself, it's Nintendo's servers that are horrible.

Oh, no, I enjoyed it. By the end, I was wondering when it would end, but only because I had nothing but that and I was craving a real fight. It was pretty much all it could be, you really couldn't have changed it much at all. I'd go back and play it again for fun, with or without other people.

Yeah, lag never has anything to do with your own personal connection. >_>

So everyone that plays Brawl has a bad connection? I have never played a match without lag, and neither have you. Nintendo is extremely behind when it comes to the internet, and that can't be denied.

I've played plenty of matches without lag, you should stop assuming what applies to you applies to everyone.

IMO, it deserves a 9 at most, what with the horrible adventure mode, and frequent lag during online play.

Don't go bashing it for its online yet. It will be fixed. And even so, it seems it's gotten a huge amount better already.

Look at these matches I had with a friend:

Nearly no lag.

I have a better connection than you, because you made me lag in Halo 3, so...it does apply to everyone.

EDIT - @Kirby, shouldn't be a problem in the first place.

Honestly, should it factor into the review score period? It's Nintendo WFC's fault for being laggy... NOT Brawl's fault. The developers weren't in charge of that, and so they shouldn't be knocked for it.

LOL. I made you lag? We were all lagging and when you left, Hagriss pointed out how much better the connection was.
