Playstation $500 for the cheapest model

Before I found out it was so expensive I was only 99% sure I wasn't going to buy one. Now I'm 100% sure that I'm not.

I'm totally going to get one. The price sounds way better than the speculated price of $1000 last year. To build the system costs $900, the most that it's being sold for is $599, They are losing more than Microsoft did. They are thinking of the consumer.

I will definitely get one the new games and new blue ray HD DVDs so sweet :rockin , of coarse i won't be able to afford it till X - MAS 2007 :hh

Yes they are thinking of the consumer but the price is still not consumer friendly. Especially when you think about the cost of games and accessories. I see MS winning this console war more and more as these new consoles are being released this year. Yes it's only a one hundred dollar difference but that's still quite a bit for people.

I will buy one but not until most of the franchise that I want are released. I should have enough money by then.

Although the Canadian dollar has rised to 90 cents to the US dollar, and a recent tax cut, this system will still cost me over $700. Yikes.

Even though it does look amazing, I wouldn't pay $500 for any system (I passed up the chance 6 years ago when the PS2 retailed in Canada for $450 - over $500 with tax). It is just a ridiculous sum of money, and only the super Sony fanboys, who are incredibly well off, will be able to afford this system the day it launches.

And I think you'll be hard pressed to find someone who is going to choose the PS3 over the 360 when they see the two together and one is considerably more expensive (especially with Msoft's expected price drop once the PS3 launches).

It's too much technology too fast. I don't think people are going to be able to afford it. Even if it does double as an HD-DVD player... it's just too ahead of it's time. I dunno, I could be wrong, but for myself, a PS3 is now simply out of the question.

Same situation - it's just unaffordable at this point. I'll be more likely to buy a 360 at this stage.

Is Sony directly attempting to screw the consumers with the "idiot pack"? The lack of HDMi implies that the lesser model also can not play Blu-Ray movies, though this was not directly stated by Sony for obvious reasons.

What's the deal?

Sounds like bait & switch to me.

BINGO! I cannot play Blu-RAy, it will not have the memory card slots, the hard drive is smaller, and there are a couple other things not included (I think wireless is excluded as well).... BUT..... it's not the fact that they aren't included... BUT IT IS PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO ADD THEM BACK ON.... which creates 2 different system versions! SEE... Microsoft was smart... offer the smaller pack, BUT make it so that people can upgrade the components.... AND BOTH 360 offerings ARE THE EXACT SAME... just one doesn't have as large of a hard drive and less accessories.

SONY is limiting the "idiot pack" (yes, I like that name :lol thank you sartori).... SO THAT it is technically INFERIOR, and cannot be upgraded PERIOD. SO WHO THE HELL WOULD BUY THE LESSER SYSTEM?!?

Not to mention... WHY would they EVEN OFFER blu-ray IF the lesser system won't be able to run it right?

The Ps3 hard drive is internal... and is not able to be swapped out (like the 360's).

IMO... offering an "inferior" system model is a move NOT for the customer... and I think it is quite arrogant (like mistakes Nintendo made with the N64). If Nintendo did a move like this, I'd rip them a new one.

I mean.... I know I am critical of Sony and all.... but seriously... HOW MANY MISTAKES can you make? I guess lets wait and see what happens upon launch.

Not as bad as the mistakes that Sega made, driving them out of the console race.

OTOH, they say both models can do HD out... :? :?

So what's the difference with the premioum version? Are they trying to trick people? At any rate I won't be buying one.

I had thought of getting a PS2 if I ran out of good games to play on my Cube, but that never happened.

Well the only thing I heard about the $500 version is that it won't include the flash card and memory stick slots, won't have wifi, and will not have the 2 hdmi connections. Not sure if it'll be 0 hdmi's or maybe just 1.

yes... that is true.

but... I'd like to know how it's going to do Blu-ray.... or how it's going to do HD.

Bv :hat

Well I have no plans to buy blu rays anytime soon, I'm quite content with my DVD's. My PS3 will be for PS3 games only, and the occasional PS1 and PS2 game. :D All the other stuff is not needed or necessary.

Why would Sony release a PS3 that couldn't handle BluRay games? That would be retarded on their end.
