Actually, It's the opposite. It's caused a mini-revolution within gaming itself. AAA developers and publishers are losing more customers to indie titles. Steam, and the PC platform, have allowed smaller developers to release games that would normally not get the green light from big publishers. And it's finally spilled over to consoles.

There are some incredible indie games that have been released in the past couple of years that rival AAA titles.

For you Retro, I would highly recommend checking out Steam and peruse the indie titles. There are many games that are throwbacks to the 8-bit era but contain newer mechanics and gameplay. I truly think you'd be impressed.
That is simply amazing that indie developers "get it." And the game companies have somehow lost their way.
It is indie games that have made the Ouya popular with me. And it has fast become my console of choice on my big screen TV.
I use Linux, would that be a problem with Steam?

No, as a matter of fact, Valve is working on their own OS. Appropriately titled SteamOS and it's all based on Linux. They got tired of Windows.

The current Steam client does work on Linux and their is a nice handful of titles. It's small but growing.

I also recommend checking out the Humble Bundle store. They have a nice selection of DRM-free games that are Linux based.

Here are some games I think you might enjoy -

Anodyne
Bastion
Fez
FTL: Faster Than Light
Super Meat Boy

steam has killed my desire to buy the xbox one or ps4. It has surpassed console gaming in every way except for game rental; there's no gamefly or redbox.

That's what awesome about the Family Sharing feature. You can borrow games that interest you before buying.

I read about that steam sharing when the beta was announced, never tried it. I'm sure I will soon, that apu I was talking about in another forum just came so my daughter will have a computer for christmas that i'm sure we'll end up sharing some stuff

What's that about? I've been buying some games off GOG, but their selection is kinda light so I might check out Steam.

I love GoG! I try to buy my games there as much as I can.

Here is more info on Family sharing - http://store.steampowered.com/sharing/

It's still in Beta but if you join the group, you can try it now. Basically, you authorize a computer by logging on to Steam on it and then everyone who logs in afterwards has access to your library. The one downside is that only one person can access your library at any given time. Another downside is that not all games are allowed to be shared. It's up to the devs/publishers.

Well it's a cool idea that will eventually grow and get better! And dude what have you bought off GOG? So far I got Shadowman and FarCry, and I have Psychonauts, Ground Control 2 and System Shock 2 in my cart waitin' on my next payday. Also have a bunch of games in my wishlist. It's gonna be fun going through these older PC classics I've missed out on!

I simply don't post as often because I feel like my time is at a premium. I am at my hospital job so much of the time, then have domestic responsibilities, pets, social obligations, etc.

When I do have spare time, I want to spend it gaming or playing guitar!

That all being said, I scored a ton of stuff on Black Friday console-wise. Overall, I have been mostly a PC gamer for quite a few years. After the PS2 and Xbox faded, the only newer console I had for a few years was a DS lite. My girlfriend picked up a PS3 for me last year, but I only had a few games for it until recently. Skyrim has really dominated my PC gaming time over the last year.

If anything, I think it may just be difficult finding which console I will be using as I now have a PSP and a 360 as well.

Tomb Raider 1-5
Rogue Legacy

Torchlight
Alone in the Dark 1-3
Alpha Centauri
Legacy of Kain series (Blood Omen games + Soul Reaver games)
Beyond Good & Evil
Faster Than Light
Pid
Dust
Botanicula

I've tried to find other forums but nothing I found was quite like EGA in its heyday. I don't know what it was, but this place just had a much more open vibe to it.

There's still a lot of posting going on at game forums now but usually it's at forums that are specific to a game or series rather than forums that cover multiple consoles.

Yeah, this place has been pretty open to Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, PC gaming, handheld games, NeoGeo, Arcade gaming, and any other form of video game I even know!

Sounds like we are more tuned to having a love for games and shy away from being the strict fanboyism kind of stuff. Just saying. Seemed that reflected the overall personality of this forum. Which made everyone feel welcomed.

Love the Rayman Origins CreepinDeth. It is my favourite of the series.

He must have bought the sight just to try and monotize it, he's only posted once or twice as far as i've noticed.

Blue has seemed to just be generally mia on here especially but also i've not seen him on steam like normal.

Yeah, holiday season through the beginning of the year is always pretty busy. BV and I usually play guitar every few weekends, but during the winter months that drops off quite a bit. It's just one more reason that winter sucks!

I'd rather be hot than cold personally.

Also, today I rediscovered Warioland 3. All my fond childhood memories of having a gameboy color are starting to flood back to me.
