Don't panic, just got some issues. Some games like Heavy Rain are suffering because of this.

Also, this may prevent you from playing OFFLINE as well. So be careful! My friend just lost his trophies in Heavy Rain :(

Re: PSN is down worldwide! Games are crashing and PSN is fixing it asap.

Update: Sony has acknowledged the issue, and is "looking into it." We've yet to hear an official word on what the problem is, though it seems to be a bit larger than just the PSN. Owners of PS3 Phats are reporting that the date on their console has reverted to 12/31/1999, which is likely the cause of the data-corrupting errors. Some Phat-owners have reported receiving the errors while their console was offline, which is upsetting, to say the least. We'll let you know when we hear official word from Sony.

Thank god my PS3 is unplugged at the moment. I'd be so sad if my inFamous or Dragon Age: Origins trophies disappeared. :(

Huh, didn't work for me awhile ago, but now it does. Well it's pretty much the same URL just to a different part right? I don't see how some can use the part before dearplaystation

Re: PSN is down worldwide! Games are crashing and PSN is fixing it asap.

Is this still happening? I'm having second thoughts about going and beating a boss in Demon's Souls.

Re: PSN is down worldwide! Games are crashing and PSN is fixing it asap.

It's down for a long good time now. It's officially safe to say, Sony's Playstation website and network has been hacked.

Re: PSN is down worldwide! Games are crashing and PSN is fixing it asap.

Well maybe we'll get something for free like we did when XBL had problems around christmas 2008.

Do we have any info on this from Sony themselves?

Re: PSN is down worldwide! Games are crashing and PSN is fixing it asap.

I just read on a gamespot forum that the problem is only affecting fat PS3's and if you have a slim you're good to go.

Well, do we even know if dearplaystation is actually part of the site? I've never heard of that part before.

It could have been added by a hacker as a message to sony. Maybe he just messed up and that message was supposed to show up if you don't have flash or javascript

Re: PSN is down worldwide! Games are crashing and PSN is fixing it asap.

What's the status now? I haven't checked my PS3 but it's a PS3 phat so I'm curious.

Re: PSN is down worldwide! Games are crashing and PSN is fixing it asap.

Sony is supposedly working on it and should have a fix within the next 24 hours. It's in the official Sony blog. Stupid leap year messing up fattie PS3s.

Re: PSN is down worldwide! Games are crashing and PSN is fixing it asap.

* The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
* When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
* When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
trophies. Please exit your game.”
* When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
* Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

^ Wow! I gotta check mine!

Edit: I'm too chicken to turn my PS3 on :'(

Re: PSN is down worldwide! Games are crashing and PSN is fixing it asap.

After a night of radio silence, Sony has finally spoken up about the game-crashing issues currently plaguing non-Slim PS3 models. A post on PlayStation Blog has confirmed that the problems are "being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system." The statement puts a loose timeframe on a fix for the issues, saying, "we hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours."

Additionally, the PlayStation Blog post includes a word of warning to PS3 Phat owners: "if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained Trophies, and not being able to restore certain data." (Read Sony's full statement after the break.)

We know you're curious to see what the console apocalypse looks like, but trust us -- it's just not worth it. We'll let you know when it's safe to turn your system back on.

So basically, the PS3 wasn't ready for a LEAP year?

UPDATE: Sony has released a statement confirming that the problems are caused by a clock error. They hope to resolve the issue in 24 hours, but in the meantime, they've warned PS3 users not to turn on their systems. Doing so "may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data."

We'll let you know when the all clear is given.

ORIGINAL STORY: PlayStation 3 consoles around the world appear to have gone on strike. Reports have been coming in since Sunday that the PlayStation Network is now inaccessible, and that certain PS3 games have been rendered unplayable.

The issue appears to be affecting systems that came out before 2009's PlayStation 3 Slim. Trying to load up PS3 games on one of those systems will result in an error code and a notice that trophies cannot be loaded.

A 1UP 60 gigabyte PlayStation 3 was no exception to this sudden meltdown. Both a Japanese copy of Final Fantasy XIII and Flower gave the error code. Development studios appear to be affected as well; Develop is reporting that industry debug units have been thrown into a "rebooting cycle, due to an endlessly-looping error message."

In an update on the PlayStation Blog, Sony wrote, "We're aware that many of you are having difficulty connecting to the PlayStation Network this evening. Those of you with "slim" PS3s (the 120/250 GB models) appear to be unaffected."

"Know that we have narrowed down the issue and have engineers working to restore service even as you read this. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, and genuinely appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this."

Speculation has surfaced that this problem may have to do with a calendar error. It seems that the fact that 2010 is the first even-numbered non-leap year the machine has encountered may have caused the problem. Once again, this is just speculation right now.

We'll keep you up to date as more information arrives. In the meantime, check out the running discussion of the problem at our forums.

@Snatcher: GOOD GOD O.O!!

My friend who works for Warner Bros. Interactive reported to me that EIGHT of their test PS3 systems bricked this morning!
