Sony gets sued

This is honestly one of the most ridiculous and stupid thing I've ever heard. The Church of England is threatening to sue Sony because the game Resistance: Fall of Man contains a gun fight in Manchester Cathedral. :lol What has the world come to?

but the church isnt a company, therefore that cathedral isnt copyrighted in any way. its open to the public.

Yeah so why should they need permission to use it in the game? That would be like saying you couldn't put the Empire State Building in a game set in NYC. I just don't understand what grounds they have for a law suit.

Well Cherry, there are two different types of people in the world. The trigger happy people, and the lawsuit happy people. It would seem as though the cathedral would fall into the lawsuit happy people who sue for the sake of getting money and publicity. Yes, I believe that's correct.

The worst they can do is sue for defamation of character or something along that line. And that has to be one of the hardest civil cases to prove. Because the church has to show evidence of loss of income (it's a non-profit organization) and prove that the general population has suddenly had a negative opinion on the church based on this game. Also, the cathedral is a public domain. So they cannot in any way sue for using it's likeness in a game.

this is kinda like all that anti-harry potter stuff isnt it?

You mean, "Hey. The author has lots of money, and I need lots of money. And it makes me mad that someone can sit down and write a good story" kind of stuff? Yep. :lol

You know, I have a book that was written by a conservative Christian pastor called What's the World to do about Harry Potter, and you know what he said about it? Enjoy the books/movies for what they are intended to be; Entertainment!!

I think the Church of England is blowing this way out of porportion.

Wow is this sad. Did they maybe understand they barely have a case? I guess people will do anything for attention...

Nah. Suing people is easier than playing the lottery. Your odds are better too.

Did you know that because of people like the morons who are suing Sony, the U.S and select other sue-happy countries will never see cool products? It's sad that our society has gotten this way.

Oh yeah, it's super easy. My friend settled a case for $8000 more than what it was supposed to be. You can sue for anything.

Boy, the world sure is great these days. ::)

I mean, I wouldn't expect a church to ever sue for something so frivolous and ridiculous. Its a church for gods sake. Are they not getting enough people to pay out of guilt at every single mass they attend? Its an institution of religion and I've never heard such greed from a religion since Catholicism was corrupt over 200 years ago.

If it's a church, why were they playing Resistance in the first place?

They weren't. Its not like its exactly a secret and odds are a priest or something (gamer or not) somehow found out about it and told everyone. Its kind of obvious that they would notice it at some point, even if they don't play video games.

I'm gonna sue Rockstar and Sony now. One of the neighborhoods in Vice City doesn't look at all like the one I live in. I think that's good for about twenty large.

I should. There's enough personal injury lawyers commercials between Jerry Springer and Oprah that I could find one just crazy enough...
