Once upon a time, the Playstation was the destination for Japanese RPGs, but while the PS3 continues to benefit from the reputation bestowed upon it by its predecessors, the Xbox 360 has quietly stolen away some of the JRPG limelight from the big black box. Witness Star Ocean 4, the latest immigrant to the house that Microsoft built.

Subtitled "The Last Hope," Star Ocean 4 was revealed in 2007 at the Square-Enix Party, but the platform remained a closely guarded secret. At Tuesday's Microsoft Xbox 360 Premiere 2008 press event in Tokyo, it was revealed that the newest iteration in the long running series will be landing squarely in Microsoft's camp.

Taking place a few hundred years before the first Star Ocean, the prequel will have a stronger sci-fi bent than the earlier games. Square Enix was unclear on whether Star OCean could end up on the PS3 as well or if it's a 360 exclusive. Star Ocean 4 is scheduled to arrive in 2009.

For the love of all things sweet, this is good, I have always wanted to get into the Star Ocean series, I will have to buy this to play on my friends 360.

[Still waiting for Star Ocean 1 and 2 for localization in the US on the PSP, come on!!!]

Hmm, it will be interesting to see if this finally pushes 360 sales in Japan.

if eternal sonata, lost odyssey and tales of vesperia don't do it then this probably wont either.... but screw the japanese i wanna play this anyway

Ive heared the term Star Ocean being thrown around before, just never knew what it was until now.

This kinda has me a little worried...Square Enix hasn't been that great as of late...

every company has their little ups and downs, i believe they only had about 2 games with certain technical problems (one of those wasn't even developed by square-enix just published)

Square Enix hasn't had anything good this gen so far. So, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

The world ends with you....Final Fantasy Crisis core.... the revival of many experiences (remakes, they kinda count in a way because no matter how many times they remake FF4 and chrono trigger it is still darn good) and heck even final fantasy my life as a king had good reviews.... sure they seem to be more concentrated in the portable market nowadays as they only have tried to make only 2 games for 360/ps3 games (well actually 1 because infinite undiscovery was just published by them) i bet they only had some trouble adjusting to the hardware (as the only problem noted in reviews with last remnant are technical issues which they should be working on the ps3 version.. that i will give you that is uncertain)

there is no need to worry, i mean if even sonic can make a slight comeback form the worst games ever as you have mentioned in the past, i bet square-enix can recover from a small bump
