Re: Tales of Symphonia sequel for Wii

woow collete is a playable character xD so there's probability that lloyd and sheena are too.. this is now shaping up to be another favorite game

Re: Tales of Symphonia sequel for Wii

I've never played Tales of Symphonia at all..I've never even though about it..

..but I hear about it a lot..how is it?

Re: Tales of Symphonia sequel for Wii

Tales of Symphonia is awesome. It's still my favorite game of all time. ^_^ It's originally a Gamecube game but you can play it on the Wii since the Wii is backwards compatible. You'll just need a Gamecube controller and Gamecube memory card. I hear it's a bit hard to find, though. But if you can, it ought to be relatively cheap by now, and I recommend it, especially if you like rpgs.

here's my review of the game. even though i gave it an 8 it's still my favorite game XD (i just don't like exagerated reviews) it's only about 12 to 15 dollars and at least is easier to find than tales of the abyss (wich some people say it's better but i haven't played that one)

and mai i guess that guy from the glasses is just another new character XD....

Re: Tales of Symphonia sequel for Wii

So I'm confused. Is this a direct sequel? I see all the old characters and some really cool new ones as well.

- Takes place two (or three?) years after Symphonia
- Will feature an LMB based on Abyss' (free-running, pretty much)
- Will have some sort of monster capturing and raising system
- Is not being designed as a main entry
- Creative Developer is from Soul Calibur, neither Team Symphonia or Team MelFes are confirmed to be the actual ones working on this.
- Character Designer is not Kosuke Fujishima
- The main characters are Emil and Marta. Characters from Symphonia are supposedly only NPCs

Members of the Tales forum describe it as more of a spin-off than a sequel. It's to Symphonia what Dirge of Cerberus was to Final Fantasy VII.

Of course that's from quite a while ago, so some of the information may have been updated since then.

For example, it does look like Collette at least is a playable character and not just an NPC.

Re: Tales of Symphonia sequel for Wii

mai i don't know why but your points about the game scare me a lot :lol if it's from soul calibur developers i hope they are not from the soul calibur legends developers and the comparison with dirge of cerberus is also making this game look bad IMO....

but as long as this game has the basics of a tales of game i will buy it no matter what (it's gonna have average reviews anyway like symphonia did)

DoC? Why must they use such a bad comparison?

they should compare it with good spin-offs :lol not with that horrible piece of a game (IMO). but anyway i just hope they let us use other symphonia characters

Re: Tales of Symphonia sequel for Wii

That would be really cool if the characters from the original Tales of Symphonia ended up being playable characters...like maybe after you beat it or something, as an unlockable. I would love to see Lloyd, Genis, Emil and Marta on the same battlefield.

P.S. Sorry to have you quote yourself Mai, I was lazy and didn't read the first page. :-\

Re: Tales of Symphonia sequel for Wii

It's ok Strubes, I think it was two topics merged anyway, so you might have just read page one before they got merged.

Anyway, IGN calls it a sequel, not a spin-off.

They played it at the Jump Festa and did a hands-on impressions article about it.

While the dungeon crawling component of the game didn't seem all that different from past Tales games, get into battle and you'll find some dramatic changes. This latest update to the Linear Motion Battle system keeps your character attacking on a single 2D line in a full 3D battle field. You lock yourself into a single enemy, pressing the minus button to toggle targets, then simply press A to make your character attack, or B plus a direction on the analogue stick to perform a special attack. You have the option of free movement over the battle field, although this usually isn't necessary.

Outside of a super attack move, activated with the Z button when you've adequately built up a super move gauge, the biggest addition to the battle system appears to be the ability to make monsters join your party. You're occasionally asked if you'd like to woo a beast that you've just defeated onto your side. Beasts who have made the conversion can be added to your battle party and used just like any other character during combat. In our play session, we managed to convert four beasts over to the good side; any more, and you're forced to clear out an older monster from your stable.

1up.com also describes it as a sequel. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3161485

Namco Bandai has recently announced it will release Tales of Symphonia: Knights of Ratatosk for the Wii. The sequel takes place 2 years after the events of Tales of Symphonia featuring new characters Emil Castagnier and Marta Lualdi. Fans of the series can expect to see familiar locales and characters from the previous game as well.

In a recent interview with producer Makoto Yoshidumi on Japanese publication Famitsu, he talks about the upcoming sequel. "The reason why we did not name this Tales of Symphonia 2 is because the game concept is quite different from the previous game. Now players will be able to have monsters as party members and can level up together with the main characters." Like Dragon Quest and other RPGs, players can have monsters join their party when meeting certain conditions after completing battles. Monsters will most likely be controlled by AI and simple commands might be included, but the producer is still keeping details under wraps.

So I guess for now we can consider it a sequel until we hear otherwise from Namco.

Knights of Ratatosk's localized name apparently. Too bad, I thought it was a new one.

Well, I guess it's ok. I've heard people ask, "What the heck is a Ratatosk?" so I guess this will at least curb that. :lol

P.S. March's Nintendo Power has a 10 page article on Dawn of a New World.
