Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of a New World

Wow, I didn't even notice. This is mighty fast. Once I get my Wii (this weekend or the following), I'll have to get this for sure. :D

i know it felt like months away but it comes out just next week

picking this up tomorrow :D i can't wait, even though reviews have not been what i expected that is not changing my decision in fact when i read/watch about the pros and cons i think the pros outdo the cons (which are a slow story, reused environments and a point-click map...yeah i actually don't think this is bad XD)

totally loving it, aerial combat is much much better than ToS and ToA, the skits are voiced, the monster capture system has a lot of depth, and the style is really good imo, definitely a worthy sequel so far.

Amen to that. I'm about 11 hours in and loving it. The monster system actually works a lot better than I was expecting. I love doing the Unison attacks with the monsters. I have a 41 hit combo from one of them. ^_^

The only problem I've had so far is the different voice actors for the ToS cast.
Collette's so far is the only one that is the same as ToS. Raine and Regal are passable. Genus sounds different but his can be explained by him growing up and getting a voice change anyway. Lloyd is different but I guess it suits the kind of villain-type role he's playing so far. Kind of dark and angry. Zelos though...ugh. His VA is awful. As for Sheena, I haven't met her yet so I can't say.

yeah the monster system is very deep and ANY monster can be trained for battle which helps a lot that they don't have to be in the battle team to obtain experience which really allows your team to be whatever monster you prefer it to be.

i was expecting new voice actors since the first English trailer and these ones are good enough

How many monsters can you keep in your..party? To gain XP without even fighting is what I'm meaning.

at the beginning you start with 6 party member slots (4 for battles and 2 for extra monsters) but the party can grow up to 10, honestly this destroys my only complaint i had with pokemon, where you had to do some annoying switching to train weak pokemons here it really cuts the unnecessary training time like that and it just makes it less of a chore to catch them all, and also it increases your roster options, instead of only using monsters that you trained for the longest time you can try other monsters put them in your party and let them get some experience and then decide whether to keep them in the main party or try another one and i think it's really interesting that i can get to do this (plus it won't be annoying to catch and evolve them all)

I'm still trying to understand the class change thing. I guess I didn't pay enough attention when it was being explained, and there's nothing in the strategy guide about it.

For example, I have a Sphinx that used to be a manticore, and a Fenrir that was a wolf and then a black wolf. Now it says they can change class, but it would turn the Fenrir back into a wolf, and the Sphinx back into a manticore. And I'm like...why would I want to turn them into something lower class than what they are now? I don't know if there's a benefit to it. The only thing I can think of is if I want a certain elemental type monster. Fenrir would change from ice to dark if I went back to wolf, and Sphinx would go from wind to fire. I think I'm going to have to look it up.

And I've gotten to the part with Sheena. Her voice actor is Megan Hollingshead. It's kind of weird because she sounds like Mai Valentine. o_O :lol There's some kind of irony in that, given how long I used Sheena for my avatar. XD!

The only original ToS character I haven't seen yet is Presea.

that is curious i didn't know they went back to their original states...i remember they said "when your monster changes classes it will go back to level 1 but...." i don't remember the rest XD, i guess it has stats changes or something of the sort

I still haven't figured that part out, but so far it hasn't been a problem. My standard team is Emil, Marta, Sphinx, and Fenrir.

It's kind of sad, though, my animals are better party members than the ToS cast. O_O . But I guess that would make sense, since you don't always have the ToS cast in your team.

Raine is my favorite, btw, since if she joins you in a unison attack, her "attack" heals you while damaging the enemy. :D But Sheena's not bad either. I wonder if her Mystic Arte would be a summon. I might have to try that.

I'M WAAAAAYYYYY behind you XD (due to the fact i have so many games to play and so little time) i just got Raine and it made me cry a tear of nostalgia.... whenever i played ToS with my friends i was always Raine

Ok, instead of this I bought Fallout 3. Love that game, but I'm going to have to pick this one up...lol really soon. You guys are making me jealous...and curious. I wanna try this monster party type deal.

that's disgraceful xD, nah i honestly didn't buy neither LBP nor Fallout 3 because of this (and castlevania order of ecclesia) and i am glad i did.

but now i am experimenting way too much with my party i switch monsters way too much because it's just fun to mess around with them xD

i think i'll just get the best monster of each element (but then i don't have space to develop monsters from lvl 1 that might end up being really good... what should i do xD?)

by the way i read in the booklet that when they change classes they keep 20% of the monsters stats and they also keep their artes so in the end as they keep leveling up they overall become better monsters

Well Sphinx and Fenrir work for me really well right now. Sphinx is of the Wind element and Fenrir is of the Ice element. I have attacks with those elements attached to them, so I can build up for Unison attacks easily. I'd actually like to get a strong Dark element monster, though. I thought the Black Wolf would be it but then it turned into Fenrir. :lol So now I'm working on something else.
