Don't bother. The gmae still sucks.

Get Skies of Arcadia.

I guess that means I'll like it. I bought this game a few days ago from egameaddiction, and it arrived today. As soon as I beat Legend of Dragoon, I'm gonna pop this one open and give it a go.

Re: Tales of Symphonia Help

Ok quick question...is there a way to get the voices on the events and when the people are talkin to eachother? Sometimes I can't read it fast enough or the scenery will get in the way of the words.

Re: Tales of Symphonia Help

Dang, cause I beat the game once, and that was it's only major set back for me. Other than that, I loved this game.

Re: Tales of Symphonia

Man i enjoyed ToS so much. It was probably the best RPG i have ever played. I'm not really into the Anime thing, but This was an excellent game with an excellent sotryline.

Re: Tales of Symphonia

I tried posting about Abyss on the PS2 boards, but most PS2 owners are also Final Fantasy fanboys, so they all think the Tales series' is lame. It's nice to see that some people can appreciate Tales games though.

I never understood why people would hold one game in such a high regard that they feel obligated to discount other offerings. I hope that this game is as good as many people have said.

Yeah Mai got a PS2 at the end of the console cycle, would you say Abyss is better or worse than Symphonia?

Well, it's hard to say. I like both equally. Most Tales fans believe Abyss to be the best so far, but I can't pick one as being better than the other. Symphonia is still my favorite but it could be because that's the first Tales game I ever played.

Honestly I would just play both if you haven't already. ^_^

was tales of symphonia an underrated game??

well in my personal opinion this is my favorite game ever...
why? 5 main reasons

story - many plot twists, from CD one trough CD 2 always plot twists and the story is not confusing at all

gameplay- a very weird combination of fighting games with RPG's though the mix is very good, and the character customization system is complicated at the beginning though once you get it you'll see that there are many way's for character development (either T or S characters, you got the exphere gems also you can change the AI of some characters to make them support/long-rage/close combat fighters etc etc) though it might not have the same flavor of job system as FF games but is still a very solid way to develop characters, also the dungeons offer some difficulty and very well created puzzles. boss battles are just hack and slash/heal all you can in normal difficulty but in mania mode you might wanna try to evade or block more often and try to create an strategy to beat the boss
lenght- the main story of the game without using a guide is about 64 hours and that's without the multiple sidequests that the game features (wich are not really repetitive)

replay value- this game has 2 different endings... tough there are some thing that might differ depending of the way you make develop the relationships between the main character and other ones (lloyd irving being the main character) also there are parts of the game that are non-linear (the quest for the summon spirits) and the dungeons offer some difficulty and very well created puzzles

co-op- maybe the main reason i played this game about 6 or 7 times already... i played this game first by myself... then with my girlfriend and her cousins, then with my sister and my cousins, then with some friends, then i moved to another city made more friends and played yet again and right now i'm playing with my big sister and her boyfriend. (in other words: this game + 3 more playes + a gaming party = UP ALL NIGHT) and the best thing is that they don't have to be hardcore gamers or RPG fans, this is the only RPG that my family was willing to play (but yet again the game is quite hard don't understimate it)

the only flaws i find in this game well is the camera during 4 players battles but that can be easily solved by using the semi-auto system (wich allows you to get you directly to your enemy when you press A) or you can use a long-ranged character get to the edge of the stage and that will make the camera zoom out so every player can see what they're doing. also the other issue (and probably the biggest one) is voice acting... in 2 british words UTTERLY GHASTLY (did i spelled it right??) but you can turn it off everytime you want (though i never did it because the people i played with didn't liked to read a lot)

and finally my point (few that was kinda long) i think this game is really underrated here on the US (is very popular on japan) adn like fire emblem because is an JRPG but seriously that doesn't make it a bad game, in fact even non-rpg players would enjoy it, give it a chance and it won't dissapoint you (plus the game should cost about 12$ right now). feel free to post your opinion

Re: was tales of symphonia an underrated game??

All Tales games are underrated, IMO.

That being said, ToS was actually one that got a lot of attention, because it was one of only a few standout rpgs on the Gamecube. :)

Re: was tales of symphonia an underrated game??

Ill have to pick it up someday.

Re: was tales of symphonia an underrated game??

not only all tales games..... usually all japanese RPGs (except for final fantasy games) and one of the biggest examples is dragon quest VIII it sold 4.5 million units, 4.1 million in japan....see what i mean??? and even worse final fantasy crystal chronicles sold more units than this game (i liked crystal chronicles but not as much as ToS) i guess the average US gamer won't buy an rpg unless it has the name final fantasy or made by square-enix

I know, and it sucks because I love those eastern RPG's. I have noticed gamer mag's and websites hardly give any attention to rpg's anymore {unless it's FF as you said}, it's sad :-\

and your image remind me of another game (and another of my favorites) legend of dragoon....i was not here on the US when it was out and my question is...how was the reception of this game?? (i know is a little off topic but this is more of a JRPGS being underrated topic, i used symphonia as an example)

Not very much a reception at all. I think this game was mostly dismissed by most as being a cheap FF clone and so most people didn't even give it a chance. I gave the game a chance and was really happy I did. It's a good game that could have probably used one more coat of polish, but overall I would give it a 4 out of 5.

Believe it or not FFIX got me in to RPG's as well. After I beat it I went out and bought a bunch of rpg's like Chrono Cross, Dragon Warrior 7, ff7, ff8, Vagrant Story, etc. Been hooked ever since :)
