The Official E3 2010 Thread!

Lol Nintendo had this in the works for years I tell ya. Start with the Motion control gimmicks, then when Microsoft and Sony try to hop on the bandwagon Nintendo finally comes out with good games ;D

Really? All they've offered up is remakes of games that are 10-15 years old with slightly worse/better graphics. Again they suffered from sequelitis in which the only titles anyone cares about are direct sequels (some being borderline ports and some being actual ports). Nothing new to really grab my attention. The 3DS just looks like a DS to me. I'll have to get my hands on one to really see how it works but I've never really been a handheld gamer and don't feel the need to replace my current DS, which I haven't touched in well over a year.

Sony did the Move/Motion control crap, which was expected so, whatever. I suppose that part of the presentation really wasn't for me. PS Plus is total BS, "Now you get to pay for what used to be free!" But again, whatever, I don't care about all that extra crap, and PSN regular still allows me to play games online for free, so it's still > Xbox Live IMO.

Sony also suffered from some sequelitis. KZ3, InFamous 2, LBP 2, and so on. But at least a Portal 2 and Twisted Metal are sequels to games that haven't before appeared on PS3. Jaffe's been locked away for some time so I've got high hopes for TM.

Apparently Sony locked down some exclusive content, which is cool, I guess, if you're the type of person who cares about that sort of thing, which I'm not. But I suppose they kind of needed to match Msoft's CoD timed exclusivity. The real winner here, EA.

PSP, whatever, not for me. 3D, whatever, not for me.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall this E3 really felt like it was aimed at a type of videogame player that I simply am not. I can't even say it was bad, it just wasn't for me. Msoft's Kinect still intrigues me, and Move has a couple applications and games that might be neat, but neither is worth the price tag. Msoft seems content to keep advertising "you can play PS games on our system too!" with Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, etc., and timed exclusive stuff which really doesn't matter, at least to me, because I usually don't buy or play games until they're a couple months old and a couple bucks cheaper. Sony at least had some sweet game announcements, but nothing that really blew me away. Nintendo... is now a company that is totally irrelevant to me. Their hardware and software... I literally played most of the games they showed a decade ago. Even the "new" sequels offer the same stuff, repackaged, and with waggle.

They all failed. Nintendo failed the hardest, and Sony the least, but man, it's all about tech I don't care about and marketing moves that don't interest me. And aside from the tech and the company politics, its all rehashes, remakes, and reboots. I wonder if the glory days of gaming are over...

I am not so sure about the "glory days of gaming" being over.... it is true that the majority of the games shown on this E3 were sequels. But to me that is not a bad thing, more like a good thing...

most of the time when i watch E3 i am always just waiting for the next game of my favorite franchises, and see if the companies will create a new console or 2. Not very often do i get excited about a completely new IP, I don't think new IPs grab my attention very much when it comes to E3.. most of the time when I am trying a new franchise/title I do some research about it on my own and then buy it, once I am hooked I hope for more. Maybe companies believe showing off sequels is the way to bring people's attention and for the comments i've seen so far in this forum and on the live comments i can safely say that maybe that belief is true.

Now I don't really know what you have against sequels but I am pretty sure some sequels do not = remake/port with better graphics, there is always something new and unique in certain sequels that cannot be found on new IPs

for example, although i am not really into little big planet the fact that they are expanding the many unique ways to create content in the game to a level that has not been seen before in a game imo does not equal a port.

same with metroid the other m, it has many factors that differ from the metroid prime series and the 2D metroids to be considered simply just a remake.....

and last but not least there is metal gear solid. one of the franchises where one game rarely plays like the other... here i am playing peace walker with its SRPG elements that the series never had before and that truly expand the experience as well as create a new one.

But then again I am probably biased since to me a successful sequel is the one that allows me to go back to older games in the franchise and not feel like something is missing (mostly zelda, mario, Final Fantasy, Tales of) which means my favorite kind of sequel is that one that either deviates from the first game tremendously (as in different genre almost) or just had the same elements with different stages/abilities.

All I am trying to say with this post is that the glorious days of gaming are not really dying because companies decided to make more sequels than new games, new franchises are always made here and there, but it is more difficult for them to be "winning factors" in shows like E3 (there are many exceptions though... like MAG)

Kid Icarus looks good, especially considering the last one I played and the last one that came out was the one for Gameboy
Also I can only imagine F-Zero on the 3DS, and how can any game have slightly worst graphics than something that came out 10-15 years ago? Gamecube did come out like 9 years ago and the graphics look alot better than the N64 :P

I play handhelds alot and I think the 3DS looks pretty sweet, can't wait to get one of those.
Atleast it's new hardware, lately all I play is my PS3, Dreamcast, and GBA and the Sony one was just disappointing. Probably because I'm not interested in anything they showed.
Then again only things I'm really interested in for PS3 are third parter games like Fist of The North Star, Vanquish, Dreamcast games

just finished playing dead rising 2 and MvC 3!! Took a break to eat. Also saw Jessica Chobot do her thing for IGN. Good stuff.

@stealth: this E3 is more about being here and trying the games. The press conferences were definitely not for us.

Portal was on the Orange Box which was on the PS3, I think.

I can't believe it The Last Guardian and the Team Ico collection were both no shows, I hope the Move is'nt pushing games back just so they can be retrofitted for the Move . :( Oh well we still have Tokyo Game Show. Maybe we will hear more then.

Ok ive just been reading up on whats been shown so far and i got to ask something did Ubisoft seriously have a game about breathing and did they seriously have a laser tag type game?

Yeah, I'm about to edit that part of the podcast, there was some great stuff recorded xD

This year's conferences in my opinion:

Microsoft - C
Nintendo - A-
Sony - B+

Microsoft showed the expected stuff. Nothing exciting. Nintendo dominated, but disappointed me with all the 3DS BS. Sony showed a few surprises and showed awesome game play to the games I wanted to see. I don't care about motion control either, whether it be the Wii, PS Move, or Kinect.

=_= and to make things worse they announce playstation +... why couldn't they just leave it free >_> for all... now if i want to download some demos i gotta pay.

*mega sigh* Medal of honor??? seriously?

Hey hey hey, that's copyright infringement on my name mister. You owe me 5 push ups, 1 icee, and a packet of gum.

@Stealth, there is no pleasing you. Yet, you always know how to point out the obvious when the entire world is blind. Which is why you will star in the SEQUEL of "The Book of Eli 2" :D Since, we all know you adore sequels so much!! ^_^ This way, you'll know the truth before it happens and everyone will be like crazy wastelanders who are craving SEQUELS and REMAKES!!

Sarcasm and humor aside, I admire your approach. Will it ever end this consistent cycle of making remakes and sequels? As the saying goes, "If it isn't broke, don't fix it." Which seems to be the reoccurring fate with these companies.

I don't know what else to tell you my good brethren, we are all but lost sheep in this world blinded by all the pretty lights and signs that drive us away from what really matters the most in this industry. Originality.

I would say:

Nintendo: A+++++++++++++ (I cannot say how much they got me excited this year)
Sony: C+
Microsoft: C

Also Creepin, how was MVC3?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!??!!

So good!!!! It's a much smoother looking Street Fighter IV yet is still frenetic like the first two. It's hard to gauge though because only 6 fighters were available. I used Chris Redfield in my team and he seems a little limited in his move set. I'm hoping that's just because the game is early, but otherwise, disappointed in him. His shotgun blast leaves you wide open and is slow.

I can confidently say that you'll like it very much. :)

What were the other characters? Is it as streamlined as TVC is with controls? Was there any pros there?!

I believe it was

Captain America
Wolverine
Ryu
Chris Redfield
Dante
Deadpool

I don't remember the other characters. I'll check back tomorrow. I never played TvC so I unfortunately can't make a comparison and no pros there today. Not sure if they'll be any either, especially since the game is still very early.
